Farming chests?
Is it still possible to farm chests? I've seen couple youtube videos (tho 1y olds) where ppl build corrupted/lava squares completely shut and chests spawns there?

I build 6*13*19 h/w/l place, floor walls and ceiling, no outside light, creeps does spawn but chest doesnt. Is this too small or you just cant farm anymore? If too small, how big should the place be?

Trying to get colored light beacons, you still find these from chests? I ran in corrupted level without any light for like 1h irl time, found like 10 chests but not single beacon.

I found my colored light beacons with The Things, just kill it or tame it and it will give you the recipe
There is some recipe in the chest but it is rare

I have killed The Thing like 5 times, never dropped anything 'good' (usefull for me). That's the same wiki I used to search beacon, example http://creativerse.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Beacon

After irl night, no chests spawned...

It's just a matter of a bad luck streak. I'm in a world where I have killed the Thing at least ten times. I've got all the recipes, several sets of diamond armor, and five diamond mining cells. Oh, also a couple of arctek chests, lamps, and more tables that I care to use.

But zero diamond swords. I've exhausted my only crafted diamond sword, and even my two spare iron swords. I'm down to using an obsidian sword I dropped in a chest because I crafted the iron one. And the Thing refuses to drop a new diamond sword. I've just crafted a Lumite sword, and I intend to keep farming Things.

It's just being unlucky. Keep at it and you will get whatever you need from her.

That's why I said (usefull for me) :) I dont need armor, swords or anything else. I have like 500 luminate, 1000 diamond... I can craft as many armors/swords I want. All I need is recipes... :D

But can anyone confirm that you cannot farm chests like this anymore? From where I got this information, they said that you dont actually need to be on lava level and I didnt build this there, its on surface. Maybe I'll try to make this place on actual lava level... I'll post update after...

If you are looking to spawn the diamond chests you need a corrupt spawner. If you follow the link that Lilior posted above regarding Diamond Chests it explains creating the spawner. It needs to be in the same chunk and at least 100 corrupted blocks for the floor. Easiest way to know if you are in at least a chunk is to make sure the spawner is within the same square on the map (doesn't cross lines.) What the walls and ceiling are made of are not as important as the floor.

I made a spawner for Corrupt creatures, intending it to spawn chests too. It does spawn chests, but it's not a sure thing.

It's made of a square of 33X35 blocks of Corrupted Stone (nothing else), with walls made of plain Grass blocks, 16 blocks tall. It has a ceiling, made of Stone and Red Wood Wall blocks (basically because I was being overwhelmed by chests dropping red wood wall blocks, any block is fine).

I had finished planting the floor and was working on the walls when night time came and...

You can see that even incomplete, I had one Thing wandering around, and one diamond chest popping in the open. The corrupted Miru gave me a good scare, too.

EDIT: After looking at the screenshot, I rememebered I made the first two layers of the walls out of Stone, to prevent the Grass blocks turning into Corrupted Grass blocks.

Doesnt wiki say you can also get beacons from Iron chests?

I dont know how to add pics so heres link http://i.imgur.com/rHXhJ8w.jpg I build this on lava layer 15*17 ... guess it's working, didnt even take 1 hour for first chest to spawn? I've like 20 mobs before this.

Ugh. I made a spawner, same dimensions, for Iron Chests, the base floor is 35X33 igneous rock floor (nothing else). I works perfectly, and it doesn't have the temperature problem that using hardened lava brings.

nice, one more question, is this on lava level or is this on surface?

Surface both. You can look at them at my claim in "Ignis Draco 3.0" by Mathumus. I also built a few blueprints there, to get a feel of how they looked.

EDIT: If you pay attention to the screenshot, you will see the night sky and a couple of trees in the distance.

Yea I saw the screenshot and noticed it was on surface, but I wasnt sure was this you said on the previous message build after or was that it :D So I had to make sure. Anyways, huge thanks! Helped alot!

I have built both a corrupt and lava spawner on the surface with no issues. I don't have walls or ceilings so of course it spawns only at night. I get an iron chest on the lava, and a diamond chest on the corrupt probably every 2-3 in game evenings. I believe the beacons can be found in both Iron and Diamond chests but the chances are higher by either killing or taming Things.

As I said, you're welcome to visit my claim and have a look at the spawners (I also have a Rambeau spawner, but that one is easy: just put 100+blocks of peakstone together, and you have it).

The world I mentioned is not passworded, but you start as visitor.

How rare recipes really are? I've gathered like 30 iron/diamonds sofar, killed gold keepas like 10, and I've got only 1 recipe, lucky for me it was new to me. But does this sound about right or am I really having bad luck?

Sounds like bad luck. I tend to find recipes fairly regularly, but I already have all the recipes currently in the game.
