Fossil layer is the third layer.
Fossil layer is also exposed at the base of canyon islands. If you can find some canyon island, you'll find open, exposed obsidian on the surface. It is also exposed on many mountains
AFAIK, the layers or levels are:
- Surface
- Fossil
- Stalactite
- Lava
- Corruption
Though strictly speaking Obsidian belongs to the Fossil level, you can find some on the surface. If you see some mountains, try climbing there. It's quite common to find coal and obsidian on plain sight without having to venture in caves.Look for darker blocks in the stony part of the mountains. Coal is kind of "clear black", while obsidian is "dark blck".
I simplified it for them, they can't find obsidian for the love of pete. Sometimes you have to modify things to help someone who just doesn;t get it. Besides, none of the layers are numbered. I supposed stone is second layer if you want to look at it that way (my bad)
Admitedly, the Mining cells are divided into Wood, Stone, Obsidian, Iron, Diamond and Lumite, but both the Stone and Obsidian Mining Cells are created from materials in the fossil level.
wow I never realized the progression....
So each layer's top cell, requires stuff from the next layer down. I suppose I knew that intrinsicly, but never thought about it.
the update didnt change anything on the templates. obsidian nodes can still be found at places theyve been before it
