Half blocks use with stairs
How do you build a walk way with stairs using only half blocks? It appears that half blocks don't work well with stairs from my testing.

I'm making a lighted walkway in a hostile cave and using half blocks because they permit torches to light more space.

Can you upload a screenshot? By "half blocks" you mean the slabs, right? Before stairs existed, all stairs were made with slabs, so I'm not really sure what you mean by "don't work well".

Sorry, I mean to say Slabs. I was trying to use the stair block with the slabs. It appears that stairs only fit with the whole blocks and not slabs. I found a workaround just needed to think how I was building the walkway above the hostile mobs. thanks

@Logan, maybe you need to rotate the slaps so that they are in the top half to match the top of the stairs? or place a slab on top of a block, then remove that block to have the empty space underneath.

Like, Julia, I'm not sure exactly how you mean slabs don't work with stairs, but I'm happy you found a way for it to work for your build!

if you use stairs and paint half the stair white and slide up the maximum brightness, then you can have bright stairs down into caves and you wont need as many lights. The stairs themselves will show up white from a long distance and you can easily find your way back out

I used Slabs with Stairs before to obtain a slightly longer step, but that was for an entrance porch, so, imho, it's not the best of solutions if you're intending to use upon a long staircase.

I lay a slab, then another but rotate it 180 degrees so it become a step, then repeat. Once you have done a few, then make a blueprint of it which makes it easier to deploy and continue your steps.
I've switched back to using full blocks of grass as a walk way due to fighting constantly spawning Mirus. I'm still in early game exploring a massive underground cave in the fossil layer. Using an elevated walkway helps me place lights although the Mira are not affected by lights at all. LOL. but I'm having a blast figuring out how to clear the cave and its runnels out.
