Strange cause I was on a friends server once maybe a year ago and I removed one of the blocks from her world and it unlocked the block for me.
Unless that was removed? cause I clearly recall unlocking a number of blocks on her world just by picking them up
The game will tell you the requirements for all the locked crafts that can be shown deselecting the "hide locked recipes" in the crafting interface, I think only the premium crafts don't appear there as locked, but I may recall wrong.
Anyway, yes, it's totally possible that you unlocked something by picking something _else_ up - just not the same block you just picked.
The wiki helps in finding out info about blocks, but the unlock requirements may be slightly outdated here and there, can't tell for sure: https://creativerse.fandom.com/wiki/Creativerse_Wiki
If you decide to buy any premium blocks please pay attention that the item packs and the recipe bundles are different - the item packs will only give you items, not the recipes. Check the contents for the presence of the actual recipes before confirming the purchase with coins. When in doubt, feel free to ask or contact support@playfulstudios.com
I believe what you experienced on your friend's world only works for blocks that you naturally "progress" through. Specifically, on a new world where settings are set up so that recipes are not unlocked yet, or if it's your first time in the game, you have to unlock recipes by crafting blocks in a certain order starting with the most basic: wood blocks, then stone, then obsidian, etc. until you have unlocked all of the categories.
This "recipe unlock progression" works separately from actual recipes you have to unlock by discovering them (plum blossom, light lumite wall, grumm's temple garden, etc.). You probably picked up some blocks (maybe stone wall, or obsidian chair, etc.) from the natural unlock progression in your friend's world that allowed you to skip actually having to craft them; this is a feature of the game which has been here since I started playing in late 2015 or early 2016. Picking up blocks and thereby unlocking the recipe only works for blocks you don't need to go out and actually find the recipe for (like the ones I mentioned above). I hope this clears up some of the confusion.
