News on Language Localization?
I won't hijack any of the other threads, though a couple of them beg this question. I'm trying to be good. It's hard.

Everyone has their own idea what's most important for the health of this game. Language localization just happens to be mine. This doesn't mean I'm waving a torch or a pitchfork. I'm just curious.

I have my ear to a few places. I'm fairly confident that if language localization was even close to complete, I would have heard something by now. So we probably won't see it by the end of the year. To see it by the end of next year would be nice, but even that might be a tall order.

So... Any news on how language localization is coming? Are we trimming down the number of languages we're requesting to keep within a budget? Are we migrating code to allow for a modular language packet? Are we compiling lists of all the text in the game for it to be shipped to the translators? Are we tracking down all the characters we need so we can update their art into all the various fonts, signs, arc signs, and other in-game text? Or is it little bits of each of the above all squished into a single ugly monster?

It is a very curious sheep atm. Do you see it? I see it. It's curious.

Is there any language localization for Creativerse now?

I do think people would rather have the game in thier native language.

What have other games done? Does anybody know?

I was born in America and English is the most common language with spanish being next.

it is not an easy fix. Just last week I found out the whole rest of the world spells Harbor as Harbour, so I clearly would not know where to start.

I think it is nice that when someone asks a question thier native language the moderators answer in that language.

Maybe the forums is where it should start. A translator app applied here somehow. It seems that the moderators already use it.

Don't get me started on how US English is different than other English's. Colour, honour... I could go on.

We still get what each are trying to say so it's not a train wreck. Guess what? US English has many regional differences.

One Google search says English is #1 spoken at 743 mil, then Hindi at 368 Mil, then Chinese at 198 Mil.

I have to question that. Think there are over 198 Mil Chinese in the world.

Good nacht all.

Heya RSoM,

Great question! We had to go back and do a lot of work to catch up, but Creativerse now (more or less) fully supports localized text. However, we will likely be a little careful choosing when to pull the trigger and get the existing game text localized, as we're still actively developing new features and polishing existing ones.

Wouldn't it be cool if players of other countries gave help in translating the text into other languages? Actual dedicated translations? I know some other sites do this. This is merely a suggestion.

If you’d like to make that a suggestion, please start that in the Suggestions subforum :) thx!

That would be cool but tricky.

Creativerse texts are filled to the rim with jokes which are hard to translate (if not impossible at all) and would lead to pretty much pointless discussions about tastes and preferences. In addition to that, since the game itself has a family friendly rating, translations should get at least reviewed for appropriateness.

I guess (and hope) that they will simply rely on professional translators which will do all the work under the same "style umbrella" and take official responsibility for the appropriateness of all puns.

That said, this is just the point of view of a player, Shiva Vyre's message above still stands in full, anybody is free to post their advices and translations (and in all honesty, speaking five natural languages myself, I would love to read them even if they'll end up just in these forums, I always love a good laugh at good puns).

I think it is high time to walk this specific gauntlet. Of course it'll mean to constantly update the localization before releasing new content, but it will open the game for a player base that doesn't want or can't play with the English version. I've watched a lot of videos and streams from newbies that really struggled with English. I'd consider localization an investment and not a burden.

I have asked this question. I think it's a very important question for the game.

We call this "language localization". Russian, Spanish, German... The game will be in your local language.

From what I've heard, most of this is ready. They have more things to add to the game first.

Let's say they're ready. They hire a translator. The translator translates everything in the game into ONE language. Since they want to translate many languages, they need to hire many translators.

Then they change something. There is new text. Now they have to hire all those translators AGAIN to translate the new text. This will get very expensive, very quickly.

So they're trying to have a lot of the core game ready before they hire translators. (This is what I understand, anyway. I may be mistaken.)

As far as I know, this is the only "official" answer and it doesn't give any indication of when it will happen. I think RSoM's answer is the best explanation with the information that we have.

Merged with existing topic - as far as I know, at this time, there is no new information, just the information in this thread :creatiblock:
