On most worlds I have chests of tnt.
After I take the wood from a tree, I tnt the leaves.
Other than fire and excavators, there's currently no really fast way to remove whole trees. Someone suggested a tree-removal-machine, but I'm not sure that's in the pipeline yet.
Depending on the biome, you can use fire bombs, but that's a very dangerous way of removing the leaves.
I use a Lumite Mining Cell and plenty of time. Leaves are a cheap fuel source for the Forge.
Fire bombs? Imma beat you!
Suffice it to say, fire bombs is dangerous.
I did exactly what Julia said, the fire bomb I threw appeared to instantly burn out. What I didnt know is that it was burning and so fast my screen didnt update.
Thinking the fire bomb went out, I threw a second.
The second sailed through the now empty space and hit a tree in the nearby forest, which I had painstakingly cut off from the tree I was burning by removing the leaves.
Now I suddenly went from a surgical leaf removal to a 15 claim conflagration.
Fire bombs? Imma beat you!
Errr... Hummm... Why are you looking at me that way? Put down that Lumite sword...
Otherwise you may cause a WEE tiny little small fire that takes out a multiple claim area of forest when ALL you wanted to do was take out this ONE little tree.

The good news is I have some very funny and talented friends that come to my rescue when I flub up like that. :P
So if you do use fire bombs on trees PLEASE be careful.
p.s. That wonderful Pacman crew was created by Ko0l4id. <3
Turned those harvested leaves into shredded leaves.
Place shredded leaves in spots of four here and there.
Place hardened lava on shredded leaves, it will ignite and then they will start igniting the regular leaves.
Let it burn. The other patches of shredded leaves you placed will ignite and keep it going.
Collect all the flowers/beeswax left behind.

I mean troll and joke repsonses are welcome but lets not deny the fact that fire spread doesn't work.
I've discovered other bugs that allow you to jump as high as the world allows too.
If people don't care about these bugs I won't bother to report them in future. it just seems liek a slap in the face when the game has a 'Disabl;e fire spread' option that's entirely redundant. Throwing a fire bomb barely destroyed one tree in a grasslands biome.
I won;t report bugs in a game that doesn't take ♥♥♥♥ seriously.
This game is really fun but there are things that could definitely use improving.
Little tweaks like this are what make the game fun, findinf unique and various ways of accomplishing a task. There are lots of options for other stuff but getting rid of leaves? Nah leave those ugly eyesores there even after destroying the tree.
I think leave degredation could be a middle man. It's pretty simple too, I'm sure. I'm no coder but surely you could have it so every so often a leaf block checks if there's a Wood block within a certain blocks of it, if not then it rolls a random number to determine whether or not to despawn?
But if you just want to make more jokes go ahead.
its more a thing for jungle biome. there some folks had large areas on fire which caused heavy lags and a whole lot of destruction
