Nonetheless, its a great suggestion.
What would be even cooler is a cabinet block that can be opened and holds items like a table can display items.
Even more cooler than that would be that the items cannot be removed until the cabinet door opens. Not sure hwo thsi would work, but hey!
My best bet would be to do like with beacons : rotate another block, select your trap door, press R on you pre-rotated block to lock on it's rotation and place your trap door.

Have you tried using those half doors that are made for fences?
