Edit: I forgot to add, crafted blocks don't wear out any cell. You can build to your heart's content with no cell at all, but the higher tiers go much faster. Lumite cell is like a vacuum cleaner on the surface, almost too fast in some situations.
Before the miningcell is broken you need to go anyway for the next tier miningcell to remove higher tier blocks.you only need to replace the lumite miningcell and this one has a very high duration, exept u remove lava.

Once you are up to diamond and lumite tier you can do everything in the fossil/stalactite except for the liquids. Basicaly at that point one lumite cell will be enough unless you need to harvest lava/corrupted water. Switch to diamond cell for whatever else would break your lumite cell (lava layer, tar/mineral water/bog water) as those can be gotten for free from pet Things.
On my current project (BOC SE) I'm harvesting 1466 times things and so far (1200 done) I got over 100 diamond cells from a single lumite cell!
Edit : don't do like I did at first, wich is spend most of my time in fossil or above... rush to diamond :D
