How do you keep lava liquid?
So i was trying to build a dwarven like forge in the sky all made of stone/iron and tried to make big pillars with flowing lava but placing lava without any heat source near just ends up turning into hardened lava. I managed to make a huge pool of lava but it just doesnt look as good and limits what i originally wanted to do. My idea was to make a huge fortress with stone pillars and lava running down each corner, make a pathway with big round towers (like steel cauldrons) that drop lava into small pools under them and have multiple processors and forges around the place for crafting, add multiple levels with iron stairs in the middle of a lava pool and have lava waterfalls everywhere.

So my main problem is i gota ditch the vast majority of this beacuse flowing lava isnt a thing out of the actual lava layer but i dont really want to build something down there with mobs constantly attacking me. Is there any way to keep lava flowing from a really tall height without having to completely surround it with hardened lava? or will the hardening mechanic be changed in the future?

If you want flowing lava coming down.. best to make the pillar of flowing lava 2x2. The adjacent lava flows will produce enough heat to keep them from hardening.
try these three techniques.
place 8 (4x4) hardened lava and throw a fire bomb
