If you are able to hunt the "Thing" in the corrupted level you can have unlimited Diamond gear available.
My way around this was to find materials needed for the gear I was using most and collect enough of it to keep me in supply.
Unlike Minecraft which you need to build an inventory full of pick axes, Hoes, or any other equipment needed to do large scale mining, lumber collecting or farming you only need one item in this game, the power cell (glove) Amor and weapons can't be repaired but once you find the locations and critters needed to collect the needed materials I suggest taking teleporters with you so you can put them in the areas you'll need to collect materials making it easier to go to and from when you need to make new equipment.
Hope this helps.
Never leave home without 'em.
