Game Will Not Launch
This game (and a select few others) simply will not launch.
When I try to launch the game I get the 'Preparing to launch' message for a second and then it disappears and nothing. It is not already running, there are no processes attributed to it and no crash files or error messages are given, it just doesn't run.

I have already tried:
- Running as admin
- Adding -safe to the launch options
- Reinstalling the game (3 times)
- Verifying the games cache files (many, many times)
- Reinstalling Steam
- Running steam as admin
- Disabling DEP for that .exe (it wont let me)
- Disabling DEP for the whole system
- Rebooting the PC
- Updating GPU drivers
- Updating Windows
- Closing all other programs and background programs
- Deleting all the dll files in the games directory so that steam rebuilds them
- Running it directly from the .exe rather than through steam
- Installing on the same drive as my OS
- Installing on a SSD and a HDD
- Running in compatability mode for windows 8/7/vista/xp
- Running steam in compatability mode for windows 8/7/vista/xp
- Praying

None of this has had any effect.
At all.
The exact same thing happens every single time and I am starting to lose my mind.

I am running Windows 10 with an i5-4690K at 3.5GHz, a GTX970 and 8GB of RAM so my specs shouldn't be the issue.

If I only knew why it won't run I'd be happy but I have no feedback here and I can't find anything to help.

pls help :(

Just a few other things off the top of my head for you to try; if you have already tried these as well, apologies:

- tweaking your antivirus settings/disabling antivirus
- using the Nvidia control panel to be sure that the game is being handled with the Nvidia card
- manually run the following 2 files and then reboot
- ...\steamapps\common\deus ex - human revolution\redist\dx90c\DXSETUP.exe
- ...\steamapps\common\deus ex - human revolution\redist\vcredit\vcredist_x86.exe
- turn off Steam cloud sync
- running the game in offline mode

Thanks for the help.
I don't have any anti-virus software, just the basic windows defender but I checked those two setup files, turned off cloud sync and started in offline mode. I made sure that the game is trying to use my card too but none of it helped.

Still the same situation, preparing for a second and then nothing. :(

That is odd. Have you tried the Director's Cut version at all? If you really want to play the game, maybe pick that one up during the Halloween sale (I'm sure it'll end up 75-80% off as usual) - if it doesn't work, you could always refund it with Steam, but I'd be curious to know if the DC would function any better for you.

I doubt I'd get a refund, I've played it in the past for a few hours.
I got a new PC around a year ago and have just gotten around to giving it another try. :/

Could it be that Windows 10 has issues with the game? Because I know for a fact that it has issues with quite a few games.

I meant purchasing the Director's Cut version and trying that. If that one didn't work you could get a refund on that copy.

Good point.

Possibly, but wouldn't running in compatability mode solve that? because I tried that and it doesn't.

I guess I could do that, I just don't want to buy the game again on the off chance it might work this time, y'know? Besides, it's happening with other games too so it must be a problem with steam and not the game.

I could start the game by setting a cpu affinity (FF = 8 cores, F = 4 cores)

You can use this example (adjust to your path) to start the game from cmd or shortcut

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "Deus Ex Human Revolution - Director's Cut" /AFFINITY FF /D "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut" "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut\DXHRDC.exe"

Hey, from your Library, try right-clicking the game and going to Properties, and in that window check Launch Options. Mine was set to only run Setup and not Play. Hope that helps someone, maybe?

Ah I got it fixed with a mod off of nexus mods
