Deus Ex: Human Revolution not starting.
I have been researching this problem for almost three weeks. Whenever I try to launch Deus Ex it tries, then nothing, then it syncs with steam and that's it. I have tried numerous fixes I have found in forums including placing Steam in offline mode, unchecking the steam cloud sync, updating my NVidia drivers, verifying game cache, re-installing it, and so forth. All my other games work flawlessly for the exception of Deus Ex. This wasn't always so for I have logged over 25 hours into the game. Only recently has this become an issue. I have contacted Steam, which then told me to contact Square Enix, which then gave me the same answer as the rest, nothing at all. Although I got the game on sale, it still is unfair that a product I purchased does not work and I have been offered no refund or restitution.

I expect no solution to this problem but I am willing to try.

My system specs.
GPU: Geforce GTX 660
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 7.89 GB
Driver Version: 327.23
OP: Windows 8

Amazing! Truly Amazing! It worked like a charm. Freaked me out at first becuase it loaded as a six inch screen. Had to go into Deus Ex setup and now its working fine. TY very much.

For what it's worth... I had the same/similar problem. I couldn't even start up the game properly; when I clicked "play" it just flickered for a moment with a black screen, or even just appeared for a split second only on my taskbar as an icon, not even opening, and then crashed and... nothing.

And I tried everything, and I mean everything that was said in current and passed threads about (fixes to) this problem that a lot of other people apparently also had: NOTHING WORKED!!!

Nothing.

I asked for a refund on steam, but since I tried for weeks to get it running, they refused saying I was beyond my 14 days period.

So anyway. Just very recently - a few minutes ago - I upgraded my win10 to win11. I don't know why, but that just seemed to have fixed it. I'm still not sure what exactly the problem was earlier, but well, I'll never know, I suspect.

Anyway, just saying to those that don't get it working, still want to play it, and can upgrade from win10 (or earlier versions) to win11, they may consider this as an option. With a bit of luck you'll fare like me, and it starts working.

Played a few minutes with everything maxed out now, and it seems stable.

So, there you go, for people whom come looking here for the same problem...

I think you just got crippled windows because on the clean install win10 works flawless

Everything is possible, but since I'm far from the only one having these ussues - if you look at all the threads about similar topics - I think it's still worth knowing that an upgrade to win11 might help.

For those that have no problem on win10 or get it fixed otherwise, it's no issue, of course. But some clearly said they had tried all suggestions (so did I, before upgrading), and nothing worked. so for those, this suggestion may help.
Windows 10 was released in 2015, most topics you pulled from the depths are from 2013.

It's the same problem, however. If win11 solves it, it solves it. As far as I'm aware, you can also upgrade from win 8.1 and earlier, to win11.

windows 11 solves nothing, I have windows 11 and the game just does not start, even directly executing it from the .exe...

Well, it helped with mine, and nothing else helped.

But, of course, there could be many different problems with similar symptoms, so what worked with one, doesn't therefor work with another.

The game won't start if you have a CPU with a very high core count eg 12th- or 13th-gen Intel. If you don't fancy disabling your e-cores, there's a patcher available here that will fix this, along with some other quality-of-life improvements. It's a bit tricky to get up and running properly, but someone in the comments section has provided instructions as well as a link to the Java Development Kit, which is needed to actually run the program. Now the game runs at a locked 4K/120 fps. Do note, though, that using the UI scaling setting that is most optimized for 4K monitors causes the mouse to not be able to properly click on some of the options that appear in smaller dialog boxes such as exiting out of the game. You can use the keyboard to work around it. I keep the older default scaling. The UI is small, but I can still read it just fine.
