Shadow Kill ability using Xbox One controller

Hi, I am playing this game on a Xbox One S, they gave it as Game With Gold and I am enjoying it in coop mode with a friend.

I bought the Shadow Kill upgrade, but don't know which button should I press and in what circumstances.

Should I cast a Shadow under a foe and then push certain button? I tried to activate the tutorial of this ability in the skills menu but the button appeared somehow blurred. Maybe because we were in combat or something, it was a strange situation.

I didn't find the ability among the other active abilities when pushing B button.

I am missing something and I don't know what. I also had a doubt, if this ability helps you refilling the other abilities' uses, is it infinite or does it finish its "charges" as the other ones...? Well, I can answer this last question myself if I achieve to use it...

Sorry, ShadowKill, does the target have to be dead?
