Well, I have a problem. I can't play a franchise game without playing everything from that storyline (I have bought The Witcher 1 and 2 just so I can play The Witcher 3... eventually). Which other games do I have to play before playing AC Origins?
To be completely honest, at first glance I wasn't too fond of Styx's protagonist. I'm always more drawn to something like Prince of Persia or Aragami's aesthetics, but I will give Styx a try.
Has somebody ever played Thief?

It's a Square Enix game and I tend to love their games. It has just showed up on my store page, and I'd like to get an opinion from fellas that know what I'm after.
Yeah, I brought that game. Its really quite terrible, I couldn't be bothered to finish it, and I had a go at it twice. The graphics are decent, and the gameplay is OK-ish, but the game suffers from a myriad of problems, possibly the biggest of which is its horribly written storyline with some of the absolute worst characters I've ever encountered, and, even for a fantasy game, a completely nonsensical plot which unexplained logic.
Let's start with characters.
You've got Eryn, the obnoxious brat you trained in the art of being a thief. I honestly wished I could put an arrow in her head due to how annoying she is. There's the "Thief-Taker General" who's a 5 time winner of the highly coveted "Worst Villain Name Ever" award who's riddled with villain cliche's, and does a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ job at his sole purpose of catching thieves.
There's Garrett, the character you play as, who's just kind of bland and boring, and not really a very sensible thief. He'll snag some high quality items for example, and rather than sell them for a pay-off, he'll keep them as stupid trophies in his poorly chosen hide-out inside a f*cking clock tower.
You've got you're buddy Basso who's a standard guy you use as a contact to get thief jobs. You also have the Queen of Beggars, who's the archetypal "Know-it-all hag who won't tell you sh*t even though its probably very important."
Story time:
The plot itself is nothing if not vague, confusing, and Im pretty sure may have even had some plotholes. It certainly glosses over some very critical points in its arc at any rate. Like how Garrett survived a collapsing mansion, before the game takes a leap forward one year to him returning the city. This game may take a supernatural/magic/fantasy approach to things, but even that can't excuse how nothing in this game ever gets explained properly.
Like, how some "accident" with a magical rock fused one character with the entire city so if said character dies, the whole city does too. How the f*ck does that sh*t make any sense? We don't know. The game never tells you.
There's the level design, which is OK-ish to a point, but the game is filled to the brim with loading gates which feel totally unnecessary and probably hint the game has had sod-all optimization done for it. It also raises some questions like "Why are there all these grates hanging around the town. What are they for?" The hub world is also a confusing labyrinth which is a pain in the ar*e to navigate around so you can actually get to the level for your next mission.
Its just such an awful game overall I cannot recommend. You'll probably ending up hating it. Trust me, skip it. Even on sale it is not worth time or money.
Since the steam summer sale is just around the corner, I'll hang on a little bit to buy Styx (right now I'am so sure that it's a great game that I'll buy both of them at once). Thanks again, mate!
By any chance did you play the older ones? I never have and I heard people mentioning them, but there were never no mentions of it being like the most amazing game or anything, haven't heard very bad things either. If someone did play then a short run down of a review would be appreciated.

They have better metacritic scores, but I'm not sure if they would be enjoyable to someone who doesn't play it feeling a bit nostalgic. IGN considers it a really good game, but I was only willing to give it a shot if I was to play its remake.
Glad to hear it. I very much hope you enjoy them. Just an FYI, there are two Styx games as you've probably found out. Master of Shadows and Shards of Darkness.
If you're willing to give them both a try, I would highly recommend playing Master of Shadows first. The graphics are a bit sub-par, and the games AI may a be little on the meh side, but its still a truly great game in my opinion, with excellent gameplay, and a pretty interesting story. And its a pure stealth experience to boot, and a very challenging but rewarding experience.
If nothing else, it'll truly let you appreciate how much of a step-up the developers took with Shards of Darkness. It was a MASSIVE improvement over its precessor in practically every way (particularly in the graphical department, but gameplay also managed to get better as well.) Story maybe wasn't a huge step-up, but its still got a decent plot to follow regardless.
I'll definitely try to give it another shot soon and maybe give my thoughts on it.
Whilst Im not a veteran of the Thief series by any means (like I said, I've no experience with the series) I am a stealth and fantasy genre fan and Thief 2014 (or Thief 4 as it was also known) is an insult to both genre's.
It insults stealth by having the most ridiculous mechanics, and seems to barely require stealth (seriously, you can just go aggresive as I remember and still make progress), and it insults fantasy by having the most absurdly ridiculously story that, even for a fantasy setting, is really stretching my suspension of disbelief.
Honestly, alot of people have mocked Thief 4 and said you get a better Thief game out Dishonoured than you do Thief 4, and as a Dishonoured fan who's racked up almost 200 hours in the first one, Im strongly inclined to agree with them.
It pulls of a fantasy setting far better than Thief 4, with fantastic mechanics and powers. It does stealth better with superior gameplay mechanics (none of this hugging the walls with e sh*t Thief 4 did when there was no reason for it) as well as interesting magical abilities to help you get around.
Oh, and when you find something valuable in Dishonoured, you do the logical thing and sell that sh*t for a bit payday. Not stash it in your hideout as a trophy like an idiot. Seriously, "Master Thief" my as*, Garret in Thief 4 was a moron. What were Square Enix thinking with that idea? What self-respecting Thief doesn't sell their most valuable wares?
