A Little Confused About the Story (SPOILERS)

I must confess, I had a little trouble following the story. Nissoku commited genocide against Yamiko's people? Then she joined...the Dagasomethings to avenge her parents and ended up avenging her friends after going into a rage from watching them die? Becoming the Shadow Empress that was Hyo's puppet? Yamiko's friend, Ryuta, was one of the souls in Aragami, right? That's why he had the armor? With the memories of Ryo, a Light Adempt? What was the purpose behind Ryo's flashbacks? Did the shadow people kill his parents? Why are the light and dark people at war in the first place?
I am very confused.

Light adepts killed Yamiko's parents, Nisshoku didn't exist under that name yet. They wanted something her father had or something, I don't remember all of it and haven't looked at the scrolls. After her friends were also killed by Light adepts, she became the Shadow Empress and began killing Light adepts, presumably at some point including Ryo's village. Kaiho formed to overthrow her and is led by Light adepts. Shadow adepts and Light adepts aren't at war, just that Nisshoku is run by the Shadow Empress, who hates Light adepts, who in turn hate Nisshoku. Kaiho has no idea that Yamiko's parents were killed by Light adepts, they think she's just a genocidal maniac. Nobody is in the right, and it's a self-perpetuating cycle of revenge.

I think the ending really doesn't solve anything and doesn't quite understand its own themes though, so that's another problem.

All it achieved is that Yamiko died. No one learned anything. There's no reason that the war isn't just going to be re-instigated by another incident, especially since Kaiho are shown to disdain Shadow adepts (no monument for Shadow adepts in the Mausoleum of the Fallen, dismissing the citizens of Nisshoku as "scum" and "fanatics"). Yamiko was just one victim of an ongoing cycle of revenge, not the cause of it.

Maybe that was the point. Maybe they meant to suggest that Aragami and Yamiko were just two more victims of the cycle of revenge that will continue to suck people into its void and fill them with hatred and an insaitable thirst for vengeance. A cycle too far gone for any two people to stop. They may be at peace, but their land will continue to be plunged into the tides of war, hatred and ignorance.
Wow, pretty depressing if thats what they intended. But, meh, makes me feel better about "replaying" it. Or, no, what about Sora, AH! I am thinking too much again!

About Aragami's soul, he has his soul (Ryo) and part of Yamiko's soul. She used his friend's armor (Ryuta) as a container to create the body. He is also using Orochi's sword.

Ahhhh from the skills menu! I've been looking all over cause I wasn't able to find any scrolls menu, ingame or in the menu. Thanks!
