The clown attacks me instead of the doll and keeps killing me.

For some reason, when I get the ritual key, instead of being attacked by the french doll, the clown starts acting up and kills me. What do I do?

Edit: turns out holding R1 while mashing a (panic mechanic) does the trick. I decided to leave my post up in case someone needs it.

The clown and the doll will randomly choose one to attack you. When your avatar flashes, press the "A" button continuously on the XBOX controller to relieve the crisis.
