Clock Tower: Rewind - FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions

The game's been out for some time now and I've been watching the forums since then. So, I decided to make this post with some of the most frequently asked questions, as well as some not-so-frequently-asked ones, to help players find answers more promptly. I tried making this as spoiler-free as possible, but I can't guarantee that it's 100% spoiler-free, so read it at your own risk!

  • "Clock Tower: Rewind" is based on which version of the game?
It's literally the SNES/SFC ROM made available in 2 versions: original and Rewind. The original version is basically the SNES/SFC game as it was released in 1995, except by the fact that it can also be played with a mouse and is available in several languages. Rewind is a further enhanced version of the Deluxe patch, with all the content ported from the PS1 version, plus even more content that wasn't present in any official version.

  • Is there a way to speed up the game?
No, but you can speed up cutscenes with scrolling text - namely the cutscene in the secret room and the ending credits - by holding the Panic Button (the G key if you're playing with mouse + keyboard). This only works in the Rewind version, though.

  • I can't push the bookshelf in the mural room!
That's simply because you won't be finding the Cane in your current playthrough, and therefore, you needn't push the bookshelf, so just keep playing normally. To put it simple, there are 2 key items in the game: the Cane and the Statue. However, you can only find one of them during each playthrough, and this is decided 100% randomly, which means you can't manipulate the game into giving you a specific key item.

  • I can't find the man in the shed!
  • The secret room is empty!
Just like the key items, you can't meet the man in the shed and also find out whatever is in the secret room in the same playthrough. This one isn't random, though: if you go the the shed, then you won't find anything in the secret room, even if you don't interact with the man there. Likewise, you won't find the man in the shed if you go to the secret room first, even if you don't interact with, uh... the stuff there.

  • I can't find the west building key!
The location of the West Building Key is random: it's either inside the box on top of the chest of drawers in the TV room, or inside the bird nest at the end of the short hallway on 2F (you have to interact with the nest before you can push the crate to reach the nest).

  • I can't find the Cage Key!
The location of the Cage Key is different depending on which version you're playing. If you're playing the original, then it can be found in the cage room, on the table next to the door. But if you're asking this question, then you're probably playing the Rewind version, and in this case, you'll have to defeat a certain enemy in the trophy room using a very specific item (see the next question).

  • How can I defeat the enemy in the trophy room?
There's an item in this room that can only be found with the lights off: it's on top of the crate at the left corner of the room. Use it to defeat the enemy and you'll be rewarded with the Cage Key.

  • Why is there a door in the west wing that can't be opened?
Playing the original version, are you? Yeah, no matter what you do, you really can't open that door in the original version, because that room hadn't been implemented in the original game due to time constraints. You can open it in the Rewind version, though (spoiler: it's the ruined bedroom).

  • What's the Rope for?
You can use the Rope on the statue next to the gap in the hall of statues, but only if you still haven't used the wood plank to cross the gap. It can't be used anywhere else.

  • Is Anne considered dead if she's heard screaming in the window hallway?
No! I heard Anne screaming when I was on my way to the west wing, and I still found her alive in the end (for Ending S). So, as long as you don't look out the window, Anne won't be considered dead.

  • Is Laura considered dead if go I to the phone room?
Also no! If you haven't seen Laura's death scene yet, as long as you don't interact with the armor suit, you can come in and out of the phone room as much as you please: Laura won't be considered dead.

(A few more questions should be added soon...)
