Playtest Results and Future Plans

Hello everyone, this is the Massive Paradox team.

As you know, we have been actively developing the co-op rogue-lite FPS Greedshot for several months now. Game development is always challenging, so it’s crucial to address systematic issues before they become irreparable problems. To achieve this, we sent the prototype for a playtest to gather the data we need. Here are some statistics:

Based on the analysis of reviews, we were able to determine the average ratings for different parameters:

We can say that we are happy with the average ratings for gameplay and art style. Yes, the story rating is low, but we never aimed to make a story-driven game. What really disappoints us is the low recommendation rating.

If we look at specific reviews from real people (unfortunately, some testers used Chat-GPT to generate reviews), we can note that players didn’t like:

Navigation difficulties - Players got lost in the arena and didn’t know where to go after completing a mission. We are working on this now.
An expanded role for the store - In addition to weapons, we will add first-aid kits and grenades (and make grenades play a more important role). All of this will also be found in crates within the arenas.
Enemy AI - This is much more challenging. In the prototype, we didn’t actively work on bot intelligence, so this will be a long process. For starters, we aim to ensure bots consistently react to players entering their line of sight.
Monotony - This is more of a prototype issue than a problem with the game itself. The full version will feature a variety of locations (currently, only docks are available), several mission types, boss fights, and, as a bonus, partial destructibility on levels.

Interface Evolution and Player Experience

Hi everyone, Massive Paradox here!

As you already know, we are working hard on our first game - Greedshot. This game is an explosive mix of a shooter and a roguelike, where each run will be a unique adventure. The game is designed to be played both in solo mode and in co-op

Today's topic for the devlog will be the interface. The main menu is this

This arrangement of buttons is very popular now, and it will not hurt us to follow modern trends. The background, by the way, is dynamic

Here we can see the classic arrangement - health on the left at the bottom, ammunition - on the right at the bottom, and our tasks (as well as the arena conditions) are located on the right at the top. No need to break something that works fine anyway.

In Greedshot, each run (both solo and co-op) is a chain with a precise number of stages (there are currently five). Each completed stage gives the player rewards that he can spend on new weapons or skins. But how to show it to the player? The first version of the interface for the end of the "run" was like this

The internal discussion lead to the conclusion - too much space was wasted, too much unnecessary information. We had to remove unnecessary elements, which led us to this version

The progress bar is filled depending on the number of levels completed in one run. The player also has a rank - for now it does not carry useful meaning, but in the future everything can change. This rank is also "filled" with color (each run helps the player make progress), when completely filled, player will be promoted.

P.S. Forgot to mention the loading screens. Although our game is not story-oriented, it would still be nice to add some lore and tips.

Greedshot at DEVGAMM GDAŃSK 2024

Another post - another good news. Massive Paradox participated in DEVGAMM GDAŃSK 2024 with a prototype of our upcoming game Greedshot.

If anyone doesn't know, DEVGAMM GDAŃSK is a game development conference held in the city of Gdańsk, Poland. It serves as a platform for game developers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts to gather and share insights. DEVGAMM GDAŃSK also hosts an indie showcase, providing independent game developers with a chance to exhibit their creations and receive feedback. The conference aims to foster collaboration and innovation within the game development community while offering valuable learning experiences. Overall, the festival plays a significant role in promoting and advancing the gaming industry in the region.

We were pleasantly surprised by Greedshot's warm welcome. When you participate in such an event, there is always a risk of facing a harsh reality - your game may be ignored, which will have a very negative impact on the morale of the team.

Everything turned out the other way around - people were very interested in what kind of project we are working on , and even a small queue formed at our pavilion. As for our game, Greedshot is a first-person rogue-lite shooter with procedurally generated locations. Play alone or with friends in co-op mode, facing merciless enemies and environments.
