You need to open your game, go to windows sound settings and switch the audio source few times, fixed the problem for me on steelseries
1. search sound in windows
2. find sound mixer
3. change the default sound device there to not be steelseries, ie. windows direct sound.
in the windows search bar type sound mixer and then on brighter shores drop down menu for output then switch to the one you use for headset.
but for me this still has no sound.
Never it does work, it just doesn.t seem to work via the SONAR Gaming part if thats what your using. your have to use Headphones (Steelseries Arctis 9 Game) instead of Steelseries Sonar - Gaming (Steelseries Sonar Virtual Audio Device)
Have the exact same issue.
Option 3 worked for me right away. Just change audio output to the headset itself rather than SONAR's options.
But by doing so (using "Arctis Nova Pro Wireless" instead of Sonar output device), then are we losing the powerful custom EQ capability that we paid for?
I owned a wired version year ago and those Sonar output device works. Just got back a wireless one yesterday then hit this issue. All Sonar output devices has no sound at all. Currently I can only choose "Arctis Nova Pro Wireless", but the bass is so weak....
After some digging, I found four possible fixes:
1. Check GG’s "Backup Device Switch" Settings
In GG settings, there’s an option called "Backup Device Switch."
This automatically picks a default audio device when things turn on/off.
There’s a priority list you can tweak to decide which device gets picked first.
Another setting switches audio if your receiver is detected but your headset is off.
Fix: Make sure this is set up the way you want, or just turn it off and switch audio manually using Windows. (Win+Ctrl+V)
2. Make Sure Sonar Is Using the Right Output
In the GG app, go to the "Sonar" tab.
This is where you control volume limits, EQ, CHATMIX, and most importantly, output devices for each Sonar channel (Game, Chat, etc.).
Look just below the preset name for each channel. That’s where the output is set.
My issue? All my Sonar outputs were switched to my speakers or my ASUS monitor which doesn't have speakers, basically duplicating my speakers across multiple channels and outputting no audio for some.
Fix: Change them back to your headphones.
Bonus Tip: You can turn off unused channels by clicking the gear icon next to the channel name. This will remove them from your output select so it's not so cluttered.
3. Reinstall GG App
If nothing’s working, try uninstalling and reinstalling GG.
Use Revo Uninstaller (from Ninite) to fully remove it.
Then grab the latest version from the SteelSeries website and reinstall.
4. Check Windows Audio Settings
If you’re still stuck, Windows might be the culprit:
Make sure the audio format is set correctly in Windows Sound Settings.
If needed, reinstall your headset drivers:
Open Device Manager
Find your headset, right-click, and Uninstall device
Disconnect the headset/receiver
Restart your PC
Plug the headset back in, go to Device Manager, and hit Scan for hardware changes
Why Use Sonar Outputs?
The main benefit of using the Sonar outputs is that you get the full 8 Channel 96kHz range in settings for spatial audio, and ChatMix works properly. Plus, you can set up EQs and other settings for each output and assign them to specific apps. (e.g set Discord to output to your Sonar Chat Output with a custom EQ so your friends can no longer blowout your eardrums with the soundboard.)
That said, this can get super confusing, so I only use Game, Chat, and Media, with Spatial Audio turned on for just the Game channel.
I am sure this won't solve everyone's issue, but hopefully this helps someone!
*Edit - I would really love to know if this helped or if you have any other fixes you found that I didn't mention!
