You have to think about it a bit more , a name is unique but also is a very personal thing. Making it able to be named and engraved would mean:

A) people picking names and possible selling the unique name to make profit that is tied to the account (zezima , single character name , special names)
B) unique names being picked that very fast become unavailable on F2P accounts that never will continue playing (death accounts , inactive ones etc)

Premium being able to pick up a name means that the name is provided to a person that will be active and tied to it's identity as a subscriber , without the name being unavailable or taken my the millions off people joining or trying out the free portion off the game.

You will still be able to get your name with #yourname and a ID but it won't be fully unique.

For full immersion, the game should assign you a name, which you must not only pay to change, but provide several forms of legal identification and go through the courts to finalize

i'm saying that free players get some modifier in their name. of all the free to play mmos over the years, i have never seen this created problem before.

it's on the very VERY bottom of the list of selling points on the store page. they really wanted to keep this a secret as much as legally possible.

I kinda understand where you are coming from , but this is nothing new or even a issue to begin with.

DIscord works the same way with #ID system , Steam works the same way with a #ID system. I can't see any negatives or problems regarding the selling point off a unique name , It is literally like being part off a main community and you are assigned a unique identifier by providing support to the game so it can grow that is in this case a premium pass.

a number modifier isn't new. but the ability to pay for a standard name is. it is a created problem with a sold solution and nothing more. neither of the services you named even have a number modifier at this point. discord phased it out and steam never had it.

those modifiers should be used for allowing for people to use any name they want, not for creating fomo by telling people their name could be gone if they don't buy premium as soon as possible and for also creating an environment where someone took your name because they had more disposable income than you at the time, not because you showed up extremely late.

I do want to point out that steam has it , it's called a steamID a unique identifier that is assigned to your account that is why so many people share the same name.

Discord also still has this implemented it's just hidden as they wanted to get rid on showcasing the unique ID identifiers next to everyones discord names , as to why you are allowed to have any name you want.

Now i do understand that your name can be taken and that it is very personal , the upside is that your name when engraved by paying a premium pass is fully unique. There are no 500 Spook Roosters running around impersonating you or me even with a given ID it also has more benefits then downsides especially with fake accounts , botting and other nonsense that is a very promblematic issue these days.

those id strings are not the same system at all as they are separate from the name itself.

The alternative is having to put 4 numbers in your name for it to be free. Yeah, it's definitly a good thing.

You're acting like there's an individual package being sold that just includes the name change... It's part of the premium pass that also unlocks the 3rd and 4th cities/zones of the game. If you're not playing past the tutorial areas, I don't see why your name is so important because you don't seem to want to play anyways.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the Premium Pass are permanent, not monthly subscriptions. As far as we know, there will only ever be 1 Premium Pass available at a time, with all previous Premium Pass content included in the latest one, and you always have access to the latest Pass you've purchased even if you don't buy the newest one. Playing without ever buying a Pass is basically playing a free demo.
