I'm interested in this game and I'd really like to play it with a friend, but I'd like to be able to play without him having to take the bus here. I'm glad that local co-op is a thing, more games need it, but I'd also like to have an online option.

Can this game be played in single play (1 player) other than multiplayer? Looking at the description, it says "A 3-player couch co-op Action-Adventure RPG" and says that it can only be played by three people in multiplayer mode, but there are elements and modes that can be played alone.
