Differences between Extreme Legends and Empires
I have been meaning to buy this game for quite a while since I have read and quite enjoyed the ROTK and so was thinking of getting it this christmas only to realize next month Empires is coming out.

Since I am not familiar with this franchise I would like to ask since I didn't find this clear, is Empire the same game with more content, or is it a separate thing containing just the Empires mode and none of the Extreme Legends one (for example no Lu Bu story mode)? If it's the same game with extra content is my progress transfereable?

Since I am wondering if I should just wait up for Empires or buy this on sale

They're two different things.

While Xtreme Legends is an actual expansion to Dynasty Warriors 8 Base (adding more scenarios, more characters, weapons, attacks), Empires is more of a spin-off title that combines the elements from DW (mostly the combat) with that of the RoTK strategy game series (for the political phase).

In short, Dynasty Warriors 8 Base + Xtreme Legends (this game) focuses on storyline and scripted battles while Empires is more of a "Build your Kingdom from the ground up" simulator. Two completely different packages.

I honestly recommend picking up both, especially since you enjoyed the novel. I would recommend waiting to see if this becomes a daily deal so you could get an even steeper discount.

Ok so it's a spin-off, thank you. I will get Xtreme now and wait a couple of months till Empire is out and on sale.
