Can't Change "Menu" Controls???
The B and A button are backwards and the edit controls only gives me options for "in game" control changes. WTF?! I am NOT going to press A for back and B for select! Please advise...

You're not going to be able to change A/B back/confirm behavior without also remapping the ingame buttons.

Learn to play with the original unaltered japanese button layout; it's not that hard. (Having played my fair share of both current-day import and old-skool golden age NES/SNES games, I can confidently say: you get used to it pretty fast.)

NO! I am an ORIGINAL DW player on console systems since the first one which is a Vs fighter and have owned nearly every DW game. B (or O on PS) IS BACK and A (or X on PS) is SELECT (I couldn't change that habbit and WILL not because then it will F*** me up when I go back to my console versions). It's not that hard if they're allowing Keybindings for in game they should have them for the menus...

Go here C:\Users\pc name\Documents\TecmoKoei\Dynasty Warriors 8
and delete both inputmap files and start the game again and make your controller settings

Try typing Dynasty Warriors 8 or inputmap into the search bar of your computer's Start menu and see if it comes up that way

The ingame button functionality is hard-tied to the menu functionality for this game, so you are not swapping the order of one without swapping the order of the other. You're going to have to deal with it.

I had a nice chuckle at your little moment of righteous indignation tho' ...

Maybe you are "originally a player of the localized DW games on consoles". However, you definitely could not have played the real, original Japanese DW games or you would've recognized instantly the fact that the PC version of DW8:XL-CE uses the ubiquitous Japanese button layout, where the right-hand/outward face button (SNES: A, PlayStation: Circle, XBox: B) is confirm and the bottom face button (SNES: B, PlayStation: Cross, XBox: A) is cancel.

Cancel/confirm functionality is arranged that way for close to all console games of Japanese origin. It was arranged that way for pretty much every US/EU localization in the NES and SNES era as well, until some mentally challenged management at Sony's US branch decided to screw with everyone's muscle memories and switch those buttons around for US/EU localizations when they released their PS1.

Last I checked you and I were talking (typing) in English, this isn't Japan, the game menu is written in English, I haven't made it past the menus to confirm (for this version), but I'd bet that the characters in the game are going to be speaking English, so what on earth would posses someone to make the controls match the Japanese button layout? We're talking logic here, and there is none invovled in the result laid before me... An American English Game released in America (or I couldn't buy it) with American English text (and vocals presumably), but a Japanese control Layout??? I understand your indignation with SONY, but now it is an established standard for ALL gamers (at least in the US). I appreciate you saving me time and your knowledge of how they are stupidly tying the keys to each other improperly (in-game and menu), making me have to play the game backwards in order to get my menus not backwards, but you have to admit that it is stupid for them not to have a fix for this (and I will note that I'm a huge fan of KOEI, I'm not just some noob to this series, as I stated before). This is the first time KOEI has given me good reason to be dissapointed.

If it's of any consolation, I believe this game was actually released to Japan on PC first. Omega Force was probably too lazy or completely negligent when not giving us the ability to change the button layout for "confirm" and "back" buttons.

I got around this by just mapping the face buttons to the right joystick and then rearraging them to my liking
