Why use 2 of the same EX weapon?
this topic is basically the title.

I'm just curious. Why not be more flexible with the weapons you can choose? Do ex attacks have such a large advantage over the normal moveset a weapon has?

Depends. Some of them are useful buffs (Xingcai), others - unblockable grabs (Lu Bu). Wang Yi can build meter pretty fast with one of her EX attacks. The list goes on. EX weapons may have higher base damage, among other things. Mostly boils down to personal preference, of course, iike "loyalty" runs and whatnot.

Loyalty runs? What are those? I haven't invested much time in the community of the game.

It's not a community term. It's simply giving characters only their EX weapons. DLC weapons kinda sorta count, given their appearance in Empires, but it's not always optimal.

Well, if you want every character to remain unique, you'd stick them with their Ex. Weapons only, maybe give them a DLC weapon. Of course, if you're looking for unlockable weapons early on, you'd probably want an effective secondary weapon if the Ex. isn't all that good.

Simple, to be consistent. Having 2 EX weapons will allow you to use EX attacks even when a general forces you to switch weapons, and since EX attacks are usually a character's bread and butter, it's better to carry 2 EX weapons.

If I have two maxed out EX weapons definitely. But half of the time I can't be bothered to scour for the elements for another one, it is much more convenient to stick a character with another maxed out corresponding weapon type.

What わっはっはー said. An example is Xiao Qiao. She really doesn't need her Ex. So she can use other weapons to combo. Other dash characters who don't rely on Ex attacks can also use her weapon easily. I once got bored and slapped the iron fan on Xu Zhu with the fan skill and watched him dash across Tong Gate doing spinning launchers.

That sounds like a fiun time.

I tried it with Zhu Ran though. Slapping the same weapon on his person. It works quite well, and it's easier to make the switch. Though it takes some getting used to for me.

Someone like Cai Wenji can use it, though it's kind of slow if I go by the first 3 charge attacks 'rule'. But if she can pull off her 5th charge to an ex, it's a lot easier to keep enemies from touching the ground, which is always fun to do in crowds.

As or lingqi... I can see the advantage, but I think she's fine having other weapons. I mean, I like using either flame blade or the mandarin duck hooks. I think it might have to do with the shadow sprint, giving me an easier time dashing around the field. That, and it's long unlike the sucky flail shadow sprint...

Might as well just try things out and see what sticks for me. Though I'll probably keep my own 'rule' of having 2 different weapons, albeit with the highest affinity for a specific character.
