Lu Bu's Rage Musou is incredibly overpowered.
I would suggest getting a weapon that builds rage uppon kills (Triumph) and has a build up of musou upon kills (Roar). "Triumph" isn't mandatory... I like it because it's nice to have Rage Ready as soon as possible.... but "Roar" is a MUST HAVE. Because of Roar, you'll be able to keep your Raging Musou going for a long time. The more enemies you kill, the longer you'll stay performing the musou.
The best suggestion I can give you is to clean the big mess of officers that appear around that area with your raging musou.
PS: I have the same opinion as you ... I was hating playing on Normal because it was too easy, but on hard it was too dificult or it would take too long for me to kill anything.
However, now that I have my favorite character on lvl 150 with a good weapon, the Ultimate difficulty is perfect. Because I can kill things fast, but the punishment I get for getting hit is also big.
If anything, play on normal until you get your favorite character on a good stat, then jump for ultimate.
PPS:
How to build your "Roar" / Triumph weapon:
1) Play Ambition mode...
2) Upgrade your blacksmith
3) Use "Weapon Fusion"
There you go..you'll be able to "create" your weapon with whatever stat you want.
Also Lubu air musou is very strong, try use it more often. For weapon I suggest use dual halberd with different element, halberd weapon switch buff incredible powerful
could you explain better how this ambition mode and weapon fusion works? as i've said i'm new to the series...also is there already a weapon from my default arsenal that serve the purpose of building rage fast? if possible i'd like to play one mode at the time
is the dual halberd in the default arsenal? i'm lvl29 and i have acquired new weapons, but i don't think i've saw this dual halberd...
btw, yes i do use the air musou often, mainly to clean the battlefield from peasants, so can concentrate on officers, but in that area there are at least 5-6 officers all around Dong Zhuo, once i've consumed my rage mode i have to beat em "manually", that were i fail, cause i can keep 23 of them busy but the other ones will go on dong zhou...i don't know if i'm still low level for Hard or if i'm not using the right weapon...there are so many of them...but i'm enjoying this game even if i can't procede further :)
Frankly, your level is too low to tackle Hard Mode at this point. You'll need to be around level 35+ (and even that's not guaranteed to ensure you survive) along with having the right skills equipped (accuracy, havoc, attack up, etc).
What I'd recommend is to grind in Free Mode for a little while (play the first couple of stages over once or twice on Hard) and get a good quality 4-circle weapon that does good enough damage. Exploit Rage Mode often to kill officers quickly, and NEVER leave Dong Zhou (you won't get the star for that level because Hua Xiong and his allies will have died by the time your reach the large field where you fight Cao Cao and Sun Jian).
The blacksmith will be able to perform Weapon Fusion after you upgrade it enough (I'm not sure how far you have to upgrade it.... )
Weapon Fusion is fairly straight forward. You select two weapons: one will get improved, the other will be sacrificed.
You will be able to transfer any effect from the sacrificed weapon, to the other one. The sacrificed weapon is destroyed in the process.
So, what you do is:
1) Purchase weapons with the properties you desire at the blacksmith regardless of their damage...
2) Use these weapons as sacrifice and transfer these properties to your "good weapon".
About the " is there already a weapon on my arsenal that will build rage fast?"
Check to see if you have a Halberd with " Triumph" ....
PS: You should definitely try Ambition Mode out, it's incredibly fun.
For Hu Lao gate, just kill everything Dong Zhuo tells you to until you reach Si Shui gate (middle of map). Quickly defeat Chen Gong then go save Hua Xiong and return to Dong Zhuo. Sounds like the issue is kill speed. If you're switching between halberds you should be able to steamroll through hard at low levels.
I'm going off-topic a bit here, but Lu Bu's rage musou isn't very good because his transition to the rampage part of it takes too long and drains your musou the whole time. I wouldn't build his weapon around going into rage mode because Rage Springs is generally more than enough to help fill.
His strengths are that his air musou is a killer and is unblockable, the speed buff from halberd switching, and his second musou gives an attack buff if you miss with it. Buff with second musou then kill anything with air musou.
So you could go with an elemental build (flash-slash-thunder-cyclone-jubilation-velocity) and use the halberd speed to tear through defending officers. The last attack on Lu Bu's normal chain activates elements.
Or you could go musou. Standard musou is frenzy-flurry-roar-jubilation-aggression-velocity. With Lu Bu I use harmony instead of flurry.
Definitely work on upgrading the blacksmith in ambition mode. My suggestion would be to get two lances set up with slash-flash-thunder-velocity-jubilation-whatever ASAP. The lance's mounted strong attack can rip through hyper officers on ultimate sometimes in one hit. You can do Shu's second XL stage (the ones in the bottom row), Clash at Changban (Wei side), in free mode on ultimate difficulty for 300 gems in under two minutes. Fastest I've done it is 64 seconds, which will help you rapidly put together weapons for other characters.
i guess it's too late for me then mate :) ...anyway i've managed to beat that mission, i've used the iron gloves as secondary cause their strong attacks are unblockable, i've also beaten the next mission on my first try and i'm not having particular problems with the forth mission too, so i guess that the second mission it's not so well designed instead that being hard...Dong Zhuo and the carriange are not particulary good when it comes to following you, so my problem was that i was forced to proceed slowly to avoiding Dong Zhuo being killed, but most of the time i had to go ahead to do the next objective and i had to do this very quickly cause as soon as i was far from the carriage, Dong Zhuo started to be attacked...
on the other hand, in the next mission you have to advance while protecting the girl (which i don't remember the name), but she is always around you, so you can proficiently do objective AND protect the "VIP"...i'm also starting to dig the weapon system, as i said i'm new to the series so i'm discovering new things as i go along...now my halberd it's pretty strong and i'm beginning to learn when use proper attacks for every situation
i must admit that i begin to understand why some people love this series, it looks basic and silly at first glance, but the combat system has a lot of depth also the various weapons with the 3 points system, your move set and special ability (both for your character and your weapon) give this game a lot of depth and strategic thinking.
i'm really glad of this purchase, if only the port was done in the right way using the ps4 version and giving a reasonable and proper amount of video option, this could have easly been one of the best hack'n'slash/rpg/brawler mash up out there

As for other good officers, jin family has many over powered. Sima zhao crowd control rocks. The warrior guy is a copy of u aing wei on crack. But the one I found truely over powered was the girl in jin. Her throwing knives would get 2000 to 3000 or higher chains!
Lu bu cant compete. Even on his alt storylibe. Takes me 45 min to beat it. But only 30 on free mode with laio.
