Where's the fun in using Lu Bu though?
I usually play on Chaos and Ultimate, would you still recommend these?
Dive: Sima Yi
Dash:Zhou Yu
Whirlwind:Yu Jin
Shadow Sprint: Lu Linqi
Thanks, I'll try them!
If you aren't having fun using Lu Bu's special move to chokeslam some luckless ♥♥♥♥♥ or his musou to unleash the fury, I question what you're even doing here.
I mean at first when I used him it was extremely fun. It's just after awhile he feels too overpowered
Absolute best crowd control goes to the magic carpet guy, Fa Zheng IIRC, and it's a no contest. Just lay one carpet with C1 and watch the show. He's about the safest character to play too. It isn't very fast but it's the safest by a landslide.
Lu Meng's C1-EX is also very good and extremely safe; so safe in fact that he's one of the very few obvious candidates for using Harmony.
Curved sword (Zhou Tai) C6-Ex is extremely fast to clear entire screens. Technically it's C6 into C1 but C1 doesn't behave like usual after C6 so in practice it's a C6-EX except you can use it with any character. AoE is bigger than most musou attacks and it breaks guard. It takes some time getting used to not getting interrupted in ultimate but once you get the knack of it you'll be racking kills well into the thousands and still getting A-rank times. Unlocking weapon affinity for curved sword and jump-cancel skill abilities goes a long way to help levelling bad characters or getting their 6th weapons. Killing officers with C6-EX takes longer.
Sima Shi's C4-EX is flashy and has good mobility but I found it lacking in the damage department until close to character cap (unless you go for musou setup instead of dueling).
If we talk about all-around efficiency while still retaining top tier crowd control then Guan Yu. C1-EX (super armor) then C4 (when surrounded) or C6-EX (when approaching a huge mob). His C1-EX buffed R1 musou can one shot blocking officers (even on ultimate) and refill itself if you catch enough peons with it; R1 got a huge AoE. GY is simply unstoppable.
Zhang Fei. With standard musou setup you can pretty much do whatever to fill one musou bar (C4-dash is cool; so is C6-EX but it's way slower) then run to the next officer and do R1. ZF's R1 breaks guard, has a huge AoE and it's easy to fill 2 musou bars with just one usage while wreaking havoc on peasants and officers. It will one shot blocking officers on ultimate.
Guan Ping woks just like Zhang Fei (R1 and everyting) except R1 has a smaller AoE but is way faster and his C5-EX is a good filler and excellent crowd control tool too. He's slow though.
For anything that involves musou spam, make sure you have musou springs and mighty roar as character skills, roar, flurry and aggression on your weapon for the 1HKO (most characters benefit the most from what's called "standard musou setup": roar, flurry, aggression, frenzy, and the two skills that 99% weapon setups use: velocity and jubilation).
Xiahou Yuan's C1-EX is probably the best musou filler in the entire game and an excellent CC tool. You can get all 3 musou bars totally filled with just one usage and it lasts such a long time you can enter true rage and not lose chain (true rage is very slow for XY though). What's really good is C1-EX into ground musou or air musou. It still takes longer than GY, Zhang Feng or Guan Ping to clear.
Hwang Zhong doesn't have a fast and obvious CC tool like XY but he's way better all around. He can C5-EX and C6 for great cc but C6 isn't very efficient form a distance and it's risky to use at point blank on ultimate. It's better to double jump-charge into the distance, then C5-EX to fill musou, then double jump back and air musou. HZ is one of the best characters in the entire game, possibly the fastest officer killer with C3 cyclone-elemental setup, but he's top tier with any setup. He's also the fastest affinity breaker in the game with his C2 attack.
With Zhang Jiao you can go musou setup and do C1-EX into C5-EX to fill, then R1 in a crowd, then rage and spam C1-EX into C6. You can fill your whole rage bar with a single R1. I found that technique to be one of the fastest clearers in the game since range and damage of raged, C1-EX buffed C6 is amazing. Don't use rage musou so that you have 3 musou bars after raging.
Honorary mention goes to Ding Feng. DF is the most well rounded character in DW8; CC-wise, on foot you've got switch attack, just framed C5 (invulnerability), C5-EX (huge AoE, unblockable) and just framed C6 and on horseback strafe (hold block) + charge attack is nearly as OP as Deng Ai's. His R1 musou is IMHO the best musou in the game since damage-wise it is second only to Lu Bu's R1 but it also has a huge AoE at the end that can one-shot any officers it catches.
This guide is amazing btw:
