Calling a horse and running away might be enough to get around Lu Bu. If you can get up to the catapult on the hill then you might be able to kill Lu Bu from a long distance with the catapult. If you can get 2 players going then you might be able to coordinate a player on a horse and a player manning the catapult, but getting 2 players going can be a challenge with Dynasty Warriors 8. You could try lowering the difficulty level until you get through Hu Lao Gate. You could play Ambition Mode until you've leveled up one of the characters you have to use in Story Mode for Hu Lao Gate to the point that you can beat Lu Bu.
The Story Mode Blacksmith is mostly bad when you start playing. It can be improved by leveling up the Blacksmith facility in Ambition Mode.
but you dont have to fight him, to win that stage, if i am right.
you can check youtube also.
Weirdly, they don't pursue Lu Bu either. They just shuffle around awkwardly (doing like AI do) as he runs past them.
I suppose I could try playing a level in Ambition Mode--or maybe even just start another faction's campaign? (I was hoping to use a campaign to get the hang of it before committing to the open-world-y mode.) If it's an AI bug, then maybe loading up a different level will clear out whatever cobwebs are in his big dumb rectangular head.
I'll let you know how it goes!
Plus, since he chased me so far, I was able to give him a wide enough berth that I could kite around him and then run forward until he lost interest again.
Mission over, good riddance.
Thanks for the help, guys!
