Time Limits Are Too Short

For ambition mode. It seems the timers are set for 2 player. If you want to play on harder difficulty it becomes even harder to complete the missions, not because you die, but because it takes too long to defeat enemies\get through barriers and you run out of time, without clearing even half the enemies/barriers. This leaves no time to have any fun or explore a bit. If I want to get to the 3rd or 4th round I have to skip everything and go straight to the commander, otherwise the battles start with only like 2 minutes. Its annoying and unfun.

You gain more time by killing enemy officers and just craft some powerful weapons and you'll forget about time limits.

And I suggest obtaining 5th-6th weapons at least for some characters before attempting Ambition Mode.

There are bodyguards with the ability to extend time based on your number of ko's as well, if you're finding the time limit troublesome. I would suggest utilizing these as well as following Death's suggestion.

The thing is, if you are spending your time getting KO's, you are just using up the time to get the KO's, instead of collecting stuff or getting past barriers. The time I see being gained is very small and kinda pointless. But then, ive only been playing this game a few days and dont have any godlike weapons and equipment yet....

It'll get easier as you start obtaining them. As it is I really only ever used time extension bodyguards for an achievement, but they are an option regardless.

First, you need to upgrade your chracter to be absoultely 100% on all stats which can be achieved by buying those stats on the academy.Second of all, get your "magnum opus" which is essentially a weapon with all the stats you want on it(can be unlocked by getting blacksmith to level 30 and selecting weapon fusion), I highly suggest doing it on levrl 6 weapons since it's the strongest and doesn't need to transport it's stats to another weapon after you obtain a stronger one (also need to mention that unique weapon's stats cannot be taken off once applied) and maybe 1-2 gather supply officers might get you some time.Also, you don't really need to go out of your way to collect materials,skirmish battles reward you materials by the end of the battle based onyour difficuty and officers drops materials as well.Evewntually, you'll not even bother to explore since all stages are just from the story modes and beating great battles gives you more officers which again based off your difficulty.

granted, i playe as LuBu in free mode for awhile, got him maxed out on level, and had a rank 3 halberd starting on ambition, but i managed to get up to battle # 58 on chaos. key is to gun for the main enemy if possible, or defeat all the officers on the map, between 20-30 seconds are added for small fries. the main ones, depending on difficulty im sure, you get 30secs to 1min added..

as for 5 and 6 rank weapons, i have yet to find either, nor able to buy any.. the blacksmith is lv 50, however, the highest ive ever seen is rank 4 weapons...?

well, according to the blacksmith guide, rank 4 is what you need to make the best crafted weapons.
