Shantae GBC
I wanted to play the first Shantae game so I went and checked if I could get it for cheap from ebay.
The lowest price for the game is $229.00 :rshocked:

Is the game coming to steam any time soon? I sure as hell ain't gonna buy the game from ebay!

That auction is over-priced. The cart generally goes for around $150. A far cheaper option would be getting the game from 3DS Virtual Console, where it costs $5. You could also get a reproduction cart (costs £35) or simply emulate it.

I think it's higly unlikely they are going to bother with a PC release, sadly.

I was somewhat surprised when I found out how much the orginal game sells for these days.
I kind of wish I had kept the box for it. It was one of the few games I've ever pre ordered.

3DS E-Shop for 4.99.

I'd gladly pay the 5€ if I had a 3DS. But I'm not gonna buy a new console because of a 12 year old game :D
It costs a lot for the original carts because it was released at the tail-end of the GBC's life, so not many where made.

If you have a 3DS you can buy it on the eshop. If not you can just emulate it.

Just finished the game. I liked it very much! I'd be more than happy to buy the game again on PC :)

Necromancing this thread to glorious unlife now that another Shantae sequel is comming out. Would be nice to have the whole collection on Steam.

The e-shop version is flawed.
The emulator isnt designed to access the GBA bonus content.

Maybe i'll get a lot of flaming for this, but original one was pretty lame. I'm playing it right now and no matter how much i'm trying to like it (after loving the Risky's Revenge) i just can't - Shantae on GBC is not a good game by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't think so.

Opinions differ, but I would still like to play it. I heard a lot of people say good things about the game.

It's a very good game that unfortunetly has a couple of major problems. If the controls were fixed so it was as fluid as the future games, and the 'floaty skulls' thing in furture games were added, just those alone would go a long way to hugely improving it.
Toss in removing the lives system (change it so falling it water/holes/spikes only does heart damage) and add a map....and I can't see anyone really complaining about it for those who like the other two.

There are other issues: slow moving speed unless you run by holding attack (later games switched it and it was right decision), very limited visibility, too much health on some common enemies coupled with very short attack distance on heroine (and also very small collision box on her attack in general), enemies popping out of ground or background in random places and/or with random intervals with no warning or even tells, extremely rigid controls.
List can actually go on and on, but i'm bit lazy to write every issue.

I think they could port it lazy way - find some open source GBC emulator source code, the best one, strip it out of anything not related to game, embed overlay that will act like main menu and will be controlable with gamepad and will provide some basic options, do some tweaking of code to achive perfect speed and quallity of Shantae emulation, they can also add some memory triggers and monitor values like count of killed monsters, finished levels etc to enable achivements for this, this will be the shell loader, then they should hack rom with any available tools to remove mentions of Nintendo platform and replace some sprites and text strings with PC speicific features like xbox 360 controller ui buttons. Then they should embed this rom into new emulator-loader and make it run in full screen mode just like native windows game would.

Tada - you have windows port of GBC game without actually porting game source code! Recent Metal Slug releases on steam by lazy hacks DotEmu was done almost same way (except for care to avoid some issues) - basically games are modded NeoGeo emulators wiht hacked roms and embeded solid expirience to match native pc games typical feature set and expirience.
