Hello fellow Wax Head collectors,

Ahead of Record Store Day this Saturday 12th April we took a look at the list to pick out what we would be buying at our local record store, and what a selection it is! After a lot of thought and deliberation we whittled it down to our top 5:

No. 1 - Flying Lotus ‘Spirit Box’

I’ve been a huge fan of Flying Lotus for years, love his albums (‘Until the Quiet Comes’ is my personal fav record, but ‘Parisian Goldfish’ is my favourite song). He also does incredible live shows (he remixes of Ghost in the Shell and FF7 Shinra Theme) Needless to say, whenever he puts out new music, it’s an instant must get for me.

No. 2 - Slint - ‘Tweez (Tweethan Mix)

Slint’s ‘Spiderland’ is up there as an all timer cherished album, but maybe, quite unfairly, I’ve never really given its predecessor ‘Tweez’ a proper chance. That’s what I love about record store day, it’s an excuse to indulge in records I might not otherwise do.

No. 3 - Rival Consoles - ‘Howl’

Wax Heads is known for its post-punk aesthetic and sensibilities, but what people may not know is it also carries my deep love for electronic music. ‘Howl’ by Rival Consoles is an awesome listen and since I actually don’t own it yet on vinyl, it might be time to rectify that for Record Store Day.

No. 4 - Throwing Muses - ‘Live in Providence, 1992’

Throwing Muses are a band I’ve gotten into recently and they exude this effortlessly cool, melancholic sunshine vibe that really describes what Repeater Records is all about in Wax Heads. A band as seasoned as this, you know a Live album is gonna be great.

No. 5 - The Replacements - ‘Tim’

Okay so look this one is cheating - I already own this Ed Stadium remixed deluxe edition of The Replacement’s seminal album ‘Tim’. But it’s so good I would honestly just buy it all over again. Not only is this album EXCELLENT with hit after hit (Bastards of young, Left of the dial, Swinging Party etc.) and have a great closing track which is featured in the awesome cartoon Regular Show (Here Comes a Regular) - BUT The Replacements are to me (Murray) the spirit album of what Wax Heads is all about. Their inscrutable, underdog music is what being in a band and loving music is all about, warts and all. So yes, this album rocks and it belongs very much in your collection.

The demo was superb in every way! All I would ask for is... more! More music, more bands, more tracks, more customers, more RECORDS! More juicy story!

Wax Heads Upcoming Steam Events & Updates

Hello fellow Wax Head collectors,

We hope everyone is feeling good and enjoying their summer the best they can!

We have just a short announcement today, that Wax Heads is a part of a bunch of upcoming Steam events in August, starting this Thursday 8th with Yogscast Tiny Teams (because what is Patattie Games if not a tiny team!) that runs through until next Thursday 15th.

To celebrate we've recorded a video of ourselves playing through (a streamlined version of) the demo and it has us kicking back, sharing some insight between our development process and how we feel about the game so far.

Look out for that video on the front page of our store as it will be looping from Thurs 8th and then throughout the upcoming Steam events until September!

(Wax Heads may also pop up in the official Yogscast Streaming Schedule, we'll do a confirmation post on socials once we know, but you can keep an eye out there and check out the rest of the awesome games also made by other awesome tiny teams here:)

Also along with our new dev video, there's a companion "Let's Play" video of by Londi Erazo, a content creator who has recorded a really lovely and heartwarming video that we just couldn't resist sharing because it really made our day watching it!

After Tiny Teams we'll once again be luckily a part of the Wholesome Games Steam Event on Aug 15th!
We'll be pushing a Quality of Life update to the demo for this, which mainly involves controller support - and promises to feels reaaaaally nice and is worth getting excited for!!!

Oh my God... Wax Heads Demo Now Has Full Controller Support!

Good afternoon Repeater Record custodians - just a quick post from us!

Wax Heads is part of Wholesome Games Steam Event, and so to celebrate we've updated the demo with some small QoL updates aaaaand... FULL CONTROLLER SUPPORT!!!

Which means you can now sit back, cozy up with a controller and play the demo at whatever your preferred comfort position. It's something Rothio has been working on and I have to say we're both very happy and think it's already feeling reaaally good!

(it's even now our preferred way of playing the game)

But please do let us know what you think, your constructive feedback is very welcome.

Beyond that, we still have our broadcast of the dev chat between myself & Rothio and also Londi Erazo's Let's play, running on loop on the Wax Heads store page. So please do check them out if you haven't seen them already.

Otherwise development continues - here's a sneak peek of a new customer "Big Roy" who used to play in a heavy metal band during the 80s. (Maybe you'll get to meet some of his band mates one day?)

(We both love him so much).

More info will come in the future about such things, but for now please enjoy playing the game with controller (or even hanging out and about with a Steam Deck if you have one).

The music in this game reminds me of post punk and also of the "Bandcamp" page where I usually buy records. hey I like the atmosphere <3 -I really wish they added achievements to it, but I'll buy it anyway.

Even better than I expected!

Okay, so I FINALLY got around to playing the Wax Heads demo and nooo, why is it so short?! I'm already *so* invested in the storyline, I NEED to know more! I thought it was a novel idea and having played it, I can say it even exceeded my expectations. SO READY for this release!...
