Perhaps there'll be some degree of controller support in the future.
I imagine it'll be missing the on-screen prompts, though.
I was never worried about it running well (The game ain't exactly Cyberpunk 2077) or how I could control it; I am very good at making Steam Input profiles from scratch and those two touchpads on deck make for some incredible hotbars using the Touch Menu function in SI.
I was more worried about if there was draconian anticheat that broke proton.
ngl, I'm having a hard time fiddling with the controls. I've no idea how to make it so when holding a button, it makes it so the layout changes. I imagine this might be helpful to access the hotbar while moving, as it can be useful to have the left trackpad serve as the mouse wheel.
I was working on a rather serviceable control scheme for Guild Wars (the first one), but got a tired
Oh, I can help you with that right here. What you're looking for is called an Action Layer. Action layers are what control changing your control schemes to something else. You can have them activate on toggle, or on hold of another button. This is where the steam deck's grip triggers come in handy. To be clear, you don't need a steam deck to do stuff like this, you can do this with any controller even on regular PCs, with any controller steam input sees. It's just about picking the right activation button which you have less of on traditional control schemes. As an example, when I play Warframe with a controller, I cast by flicking my right analog stick while holding R1 using a radial menu, which is better than stopping your movement to use the D pad to switch powers.

Be sure to upload it for the rest of us when you're satisfied with it. Sometimes I'll spend hours and multiple full batteries of my deck just to get the control scheme "feeling right" for one game but when I do and it's properly playtested it feels amazing to upload that for everyone else and being like "Yeah, you don't have to worry about it, I saved you the trouble."
My steam deck config is now uploaded, called "Atlyss for Steam Deck". Enjoy.
