Skaven - where are the slings?
Ok so I only played one game thus far (great job developers btw!) but I had a question... there deoesn't seem to be an option to give my ratties slings! The only ranged weapons I seem to have are warp pistols.

Years ago with the tabletop I enjoyed giving every Skaven a sling and I believe they got double the shots if they haven't moved... I'd set up ambushes and loads of rats would just unload with dozens of slingshots on unsuspecting humans. Any chance of that happening? Thanks!

Yup. Slaves can still be equped with slings in the TT. Warplock pistols are pretty much the sole area of Warp Engineers. Its a bit off at the moment, Im hoping for more options down the road. Its why I havent bought it ATM. After seeing it in action all i would concider it an "arcade" game as in its all one off and just skirmish games available.
That was NEVER the draw of mordheim, It was all about the missions and xp/loots. I have an old skaven warband somwhere, hopefull at some point a list maker will alow to remake some gangs.

I'm pretty sure all of that stuff is planned for future updates. There's a list of everything they're shooting for on the store page.

Just keep in mind that balance is also a major issue the developer is pursuing. Were in beta test mode and Mordheim: City of the Damned is not going to be a mirror of the tabletop version. So I don't think will be seeing a ton of new weapons until later on down the line, probably closer to when the dev drops the full warbands and we get close to that coveted 1.0 release. The road map they have does not mention weapons, but the dev has been adding in things that were not listed in the roadmap. The new turn timer for example and the Warband management. So we will see.

(Honestly, I think part of that also has to do with Gamesworkshop leasing the agreement of its IP. They have in the past been rather restrictive about their works. They think games that mirror Tabletop will ruin their mini sales. Even though anyone who has loved tabletop will tell you most the fun is in the painting.)

Meh. Throwing stars in a paw is all a true Eshin rat need,

Who said you that? Warplock pistols are sold and tributed to whomever clan Skryre deemed usefull.
Also their price is very high in Mordheim. You can get them for your whole warband now only because... well... early access.

I suppose it all ended when people started drifting away from you.

Hello Eldanon,

Unfortunatly the slings are not part of our game scope so far.
But if a lot of players want them, we might consider adding them post game release :D

Issues with slings are how to make them look good hence why they are not in game and probably never will, just like flails.

We are evaluating other options of range weapons for Skaven.

Throwing stars please. Seriously.

Throwing stars and slings please. Slings would probably be weaker than bows but who cares, they can fire twice at short distances.

Thank you for the answers! So nice to see developers that reply to feedback.

I love the throwing stars idea of Harukage... I'm guessing making those look good would be easier than slings. It feels like the common rats really need a ranged option.

Perhaps you could do slings if you toned down the "twirling" bit. I mean I always see these guys spinning the sling over their head for a bit...that is for show. A real slinger will only spin it once, maybe twice if he needs to get the timing right then snap! A rat-boy doiong that would be damn quick... Just saying the "animation" would not have to be that much, quick toss over the head... Not much different than any other thrown weapon really.

Other than for weapons perhaps you could use the bow animation and give them short bows (if you can canibalize that bit of course).

Lastly, more ranged spells and abilities. But, of course, more animations with them as well. :-)

Bows? Realy? Just give them what they currently lack: throwing stars and blowpipes with poisoned darts. I do not think they are hard to implement at all. Slings can be added later.

Wait, I'm confused. Flails already are in the game.

On miniatures slings look badass http://store.wargamingtrader.com/system/files/imagecache/product_full/S419%20-%20Skaven%20Clanrat%20with%20Staff%20Sling%20x3%20-%201987%20%20%20%20%2012-05-2.jpg

But if i have choice - i would go blowpipes and stars. Stars are even on character's models! Would be good if stars were hero's choice of distant notprepared attack with little damage but powerfull poison applied on chance.
