Mordheim: City of the Damned

Mordheim: City of the Damned

When Should I put My Grizzled Vets out to Pasture?
I'm starting to get the hang of things now and have a varied lvl 5 merc warband. I've grown somewhat attached to my group however one of my heroes and one of my henchmen have accumulated a number of permanent injuries.

Youngblood has a peg leg, can't use ranged (meglo), a maimed hand, one eye and head trauma. My henchmen has a number as well but the one that brought me to the forums is a head trauma that's made him stupid (intelligence check every round in order to move). I don't think I can look past that last one.

Each injury has a negative point rating. Veterans of Mordheim; is there a general rule of thumb in this regard, ie; -40 points and you're bounced? I realize it doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule but a guideline would be helpful. Wouldn't mind calling a spade a spade and getting a reserve in there so they can start gaining exp.

One last question: re: mission difficulty. Is the difficulty based on your warband, meaning "this mission would be brutal or deadly for your warband" or is it just a general categorization? Cheers.

lol, making lemonade - I've also seen a few "positive" injuries like near death experience or fear creating scars. It's an amusing twist.
Fear scars are in this game?

Not that I've seen first hand. I read about them on your injury table in a previous post. Assumed they were and I just hadn't got around to getting one yet. I'm guessing that post was specific to the table top game.

My leader "Stubs the Rat" is a veteran of 200 battles, and is missing an arm and an eye. He still does is job well, and I keep him around even though younger, fitter rats have risen to take his place in tougher missions.
I fire guys all the time. Lost an OP/SP point? Gone. Can't climb? Gone. I am not attached to my warband apparently. I like perfect characters.
Ah, I was afraid I was the only one.
I sometimes keep the ones with not too huge issues, for instance with my Mercenaries warband I have one henchman with -1 SP (I'd fire him if it was still early, but he's rank 10 and does his job just fine) and another one with -1 Int. I tend to be harsher with heroes. Kept a Warlock with Missing Eye but then he got Megalomania or Stupidity and fired him immediately?
I am cruel and almost kick all mercs with "serious" injuries. Those that can still work are used as cannon fodder and replaced soon after or asap as long as I can hire a good replacement.
There is no place for weaklings in my company and they can be happy to have survived.
Honestly, if your not a dyed in the wool min-maxer, (I am) there are only a handful of injuries you can't cope with and they vary depending on what the guy is built for. For that reason there's no way to give it a point value, but the most dehibilitating injuries are
skull fracture (stupidity check)
maimed hand - unless it's on a pure caster
lost arm - although for a dodger build this can actually be a benefit
lost leg - especially if you put skill points into a charge
meglomania if your a caster or an archer - for non-casting Sisters on the other hand, this isn't even an injury since they can't shoot anyway, it's like a free point reduction
whichever injury reduces your offense points.
dead - replace any character that gets this.
This can get more tricky if you get a stat reduction that makes it impossible to get a desired skill, however.
