How are stat points gained?

They seem to be gained randomly but if they aren't, well, how? Still a bit new to the game (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing by the way), and I haven't got everything down yet. Thanks in advance.

its not random all the units have set stat increases and they are just spread accross the levels so you dont just get a bunch of skill points only when you level up

What Drezbin said is correct.

Basically if you check your XP bar, you will see some "knots" in it, this is when you can a Stat point. As to which type of stat point you gain, this is based on the unit class so it varies from a Warrior or a Marksmen.

Stat Points are usually gained between Ranks, and Ranks give Skill Points, Spell Points, Strategy and Offense Points along with Stat Points here and there.
