Bertha Bestraufrung didn't make the Ogre Rat grin stupidly at her and miss a turn...Her face did!

Here is a long supressed and only true tale about why the chaos gods are eternally at wat with each other.

In the elder days the chaos brothers were all buddies, invading here and there together, spreading mayhem together, hitting parties and chasing skirts together. That all ended when the first great chaos incursion had the misfortune of waking Bertha Bestraufrung from her beaut ysleep. Justibly annoyed she grabbed her warhammers, slapped a whole lot of chaos knights and some greater demons silly and then chased the whole lot back to the chaos wastes. (Naturally all kinds of lesser men take credit for this fact but it was obviously Bertha!)

Once arrived in the chaos wastes with the army busily routing before her Bertha got bored with chasing them and thus challenged the strongest of the chaos gods to a duel.

And that's where things went wrong. All four immediately pointed at the others with a loud 'He's the strongest!' Slaanesh pointed to khorne, Tzeench pointed to Nurgle , Nurgle pointed back to Tzeench and Khorne soiled his pants while pointing to Slaanesh.
Naturally this argument turned violent and before you could say 'Bertha Bestraufrung' five times without choking the chaos gods were at war, hurling their armies at each other to prove they were -not- the strongest.
This also accounts for the dubious strategies still being used to this very day such as Khorne ordering his beserkers to attack their own side, with Tzeentch making schemes he doesn't even understand himself, with Slaanesh hiding behind a mirror all day long and with Nurgle mainly infecting his own followers with plagues instead of the enemy.

Bertha Bestraufrung got bored with the bickering and went back to Mordheim. Occasionally the chaos gods send her envoys with gifts, flattery and declarations stating they haven't been able to decide yet who is strongest, begging for her patience. In the empire these envoys with their escorts have been erronously recorded as subsequent chaos incursions.

And that's the true story why the chaos gods are eternally at war.

Back when Mordheim was fairly new in the shops (around the turn of the century) the Bertha Bestraufrung miniature finally got released. An excited Games Workshop employee held up a miniture for me to look at and said "lok, it's Lara Croft with hammers!"

And the original sculpt back then was pretty much exactly that.
