Advanced Armor Proficiency: worth it?
No movement penalties + an extra 5% absorbtion sound great, but I'm worried about the Strength 12 requirement. Is it worth putting so many stat points on a tank's Strength?

Alternatively you could get Int up to 9 and get "Knowledge:Mordheim" for the same result (minus the 5% armor bonus)

It is 2 Skill Points less, but also requires it's own passive skill slot.

Depends on the unit I think. For a Maiden who can only wear heavy armor it's an obvious choice. I also gave it to my Sister Superiors who can reach both 12 strength and decent toughness.
But I never used this skill for Skavens or Mercs for instance.

I think it is a great defensive skill for a killer, not a tank. A true tank is going to need a lot of Agility for melee resist. A killer will want Strength for the damage increase and will end up having a pretty crappy MR. This means the killer will need another form of defense that doesn't eat up too much of its skill points. This skill is effectively +20% armor, from 35% to 55% without giving up vital movement allowance.

That may not seem like much at first glance, but if you take a 100 damage hit, that means taking 45 damage instead of 65. If you have around 300 hp at level 10, that is the difference between needing 7 hits to kill you instead of 5 (or only 3 if unarmored). This works out to 44% extra damage capacity.

So yeah, I'd say it is the right skill for the right kind of unit, which is a killer rather than a tank.

12 str also allows the 6th item slot on your guys, and any points in Str increase your parry by-pass and weapon damage, so I think it's definitely worth having 12 Str on any tank even if it comes at the expense of 1-3 points of Toughness.

Advandced Armor Proficiency is definitely worth the investment, since you'll be at 55% absorption with a purple heavy armor and a helmet, and that's before any runes.

Wouldn't a killer rather wear no armor and use the Agility to increase Dodge?

For Skaven, sure. For Sisters or Mercs, who start out with much lower Agility and are capped way lower anyways, I'd go with Toughness + heavy armor and Sword as at least half of a dual-wield or alternatively a Halberd.
