Chaos story mission Subduing the ogre
I think its act II episode I.

The design of this mission is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ upp.
Without reading upp on the mission (wich I dont like to do) you cant succede the first time round.

Its basically just a crap designed mission that is going to cost you a coupple of warriors first time through and by the look of it be a breeze when you know what to do.

The key element in the scenareo is fire, you need fire to be able to kill the ogres blessed kin.
The problem is that there is no hint of this in the info on the mission (but once locked in its aparently obvious), if the info stated that it would be a good idea to bring firebombs I would have.

Second problem is that if you advance casiously and not brindly run forward all the paths from the underground up to the top of the bridge where the materials for firebombs are located will be blocked by unkillable mobs.
There are only 3 ways up and each has an unkillable mob semi guarding it.

Thus first time you play it you are going to get locked in by mobs you cant kill with no way of getting past them and to boot you will have gotten absolutelly no usefull information about the mission.
Where are the rags?
Where are the bottles?
Where are the barrels of oil?

Its also a very good chance that your warband will be decimated, I supose I got lucky only loosing one henchman and loosing a few no essential stats on 3 more warriors.
I also lost ALOT of good gear.

Im sorry but whoever designed the scenareo is an idiot.

Its harch words I know but its true.

the player should have started assaulting the bridge from both bridgeheads.

the imortal mobs should not simply heal 75 wounds each time they are wounded but rather be killable but regenerate to full at the start of its activation even from death.
To kill the mob you have to if burn the corpse, a 2 strategy pts action requiering a warpdust ladened bottle of oil.
Normal firebomb will prevent the healing as long as its burning and thus will allow you to both wear down a mob over several turns as well as buying time when having killed a mob.

There should be serious hints that fire is a serious weakness of the imortal mobs in the description.

This way it wont be a deathtrap first time through.

Have you been able to complete that mission ?

I tried twice, first time I got locked by unkillable mobs, exactly like you stated

But, second time, I brought my own firebombs and made it to Thag the Ogre and couldnt kill him...No matter what dmg I dealt on him, he always regen back to 750hp after each round...And yeah, I threw an imbued warp poison at him at each turn. I also threw remaining firebombs at him.

After about 7 turns of trying, endless reinforcement finally made me rout...I lost good units and good gear...I gave up

If you completed that quest, can you tell me what you did to take down Thag ?

I have completed it and as long as he stands in the fire he shouldnt regen BUT I have seen that happen once myself so it is a common bug. The warpstone stops him healing when he hits you.
There are a few things to remember, even if the mobs are not standing in fire, you can still do damage to them. If you do more than 75 damage per hit they wont regen more than they lose. You cant kill them this way as they will regen from 0 back to 75 BUT they dont regen damage from non-physical attacks so firebombs (obviously) and spells can kill them as they dont regen back from that damage.

And yes, it is the main reason Im never, ever rerolling a possessed warband, that mission is completely moronic.

The only way to beat this mission is to go in with LOTS of oil bombs, full team, everyone gets 2 or 3. It is otherwise impossible to get oily rags and find a barrel of oil before unkillable possessed smash you. The only way it MAY be possible without lots of prepared oil bombs is if you have 2 or 3 sacrificial team members who hold up the possessed while others make oil bombs. Given the nature of the map this would only work if you knew exactly where to find everything ( anyone? ) and I did not want to sacrifice warband members ( even with luck trinkets ).

@ khinra : I remember Thag was stuck in a doorway, so I only could engage him from the front, one-on-one because I was locked from getting behind him with another unit. I engaged him with my Chaos Spawn, who was dealing decent dmg. I threw firebombs at him, but was really hard to set him on fire due to the only line of sight I had on Thag. So maybe he wasnt even on fire after all. All I know is that my chaos spawn was in the fire pit, I had no choice, so maybe that doorway was blocking the fire to get to him...Prbably why he kept regen.

I said earlier I tried 2 times, but in fact I tried 3 times. First try I was locked without firebombs, and the next 2 tries were identical...Thag was stuck in that same doorway and his reinforcement kept me from climbing on the second floor to finally jump down behind Thag.

Have you completed Cults missions ? Are the other missons badly designed as this one ?

@ hamster : Yeah, you need your own firebombs because crafting em on the map is mostly suicide. I threw every firebombs I had on that failed attempt. Once in a while I see an oil bomb popping from the store but it will take alot of time to get enough oil bombs. This mission had me re-roll a new magister since the one healthy lvl10 I had got megalomania on that stupid quest.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to think this "mission" is complete and utter trash that should never have been OK'd by whoever does QA on this game
Stopped playing because of it (since I have finished the 3 other campaigns) and I'm not coming back to this game until they fix it, which is most certainly "never".

Yeah...its kind of a game-breaker. I am still having fun doing random campaign. I still wish they will fix something about it because I love that game and I wish I could atleast progress trough missions. I remember previous missions were not as badly designed as this one, but still was unnecessary puzzling.

Like you said, its amazing how it looks like no devs tested it before launch.

Maybe I am complaining too much since at least one player been able to get trough Cult`s missions..

The rest of the missions I have done were much better than this, so far this is the only completely stupid mission.
You dont NEED your own firebombs but they do make it alot easier, once you clear out the first few mutants its not too difficult to make the oilbombs since the reinforcements are pushovers compared to the first bunch.

Im actually still rebuilding my warband after my first attempt, its good to know that I have to herd the ogre to a good place to take it out.
Im not really worried about the favored mobs on my second attempt, without healing 75 wounds per hit I doubt they will be much of a problem but again I guess I can be in for more suprises if the game wont allow me to for example throw firebombs where they need to be.

If spells dosnt trigger the healing then its a shame I cant use merc wizards, I have found that a rapid 3 + 3 mastered lightningstrike combo will do wonders to take down close combat mobs, they even take a sizable chunk of wounds out of impressives.

Chaos really has crap damaging spells. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE chains and the standard weapon buff is great, especially mastered but lets be honest, the acid breath is rather weak and hard to use, I have yet to really try out word of pain but I feel thr problem with it is that to really get its points worth the magister has to really expose himself but I expect I will try it out at a later point.

This time round Im going to read up on the mission (cheat according to me) just so I can get past it.
khinra Mar 2, 2016 @ 4:50pm
Yeah damage spells isnt what Chaos is about apparently but the NPC does have word of pain for that mission and your magister MIGHT have acid breath.
Not worth it to plan the fight around but it can be useful.

seriously every time I try to play this game because I think my expectations are as low as possible and I cant be irritated again, I find another rage inducing idiocy - so another warband decimated, because of an extremely questionable design decision - and no way to undone the damage
guess its time to finally uninstall
Reaver79 Jul 15, 2016 @ 5:21am
Its a hard fight to be sure but its quite doable. Problem is theres so many things that can go wrong at once. As someone said bring your own oil pots. Clear the way around to him so you can engage him with as many as possible at once. Its been some time but i seem to recall him hitting like a truck and thus best to go all in before he starts killing off your guys. Keep debuffs on + CoC is quite lovely for hard guys like this keeps his dmg to a minimal. Even worse is the time preassure the constant flow of possessed with 3 weapon arms aka good dmg dealings will swallow you up if you dont get him down fairly fast. I belive most my WB was in the level 9-10's and it was a hard fight more than a few just barely made it without injurys..
And yes i agree your supposed to play a game not read it.. The quest is poorly designed as you have very little chance to understand all the things you need to do before you loose too much on not doing things in the right order straight away.

They nerfed it somewhat according to the Patch 8 notes

*The Regeneration of the enemies in the Cult of the Possessed Story Mission 2-1 and the Sisters of Sigmar mission 2-4 has been reduced to 50 wounds (was 75)
khinra Jul 15, 2016 @ 12:07pm
Doesnt really matter, you still cant kill them without the specific mechanic and without having played the mission before OR having yur buddies telling you about it, you dont know what to do and you are almost 100% guaranteed to lose the first time simply because your warband (which generally cant choose to flee) gets bogged down by immortal enemies, in places where they block the map so you cant get to the oil pots. Its a horrible mission.
