I tried twice, first time I got locked by unkillable mobs, exactly like you stated
But, second time, I brought my own firebombs and made it to Thag the Ogre and couldnt kill him...No matter what dmg I dealt on him, he always regen back to 750hp after each round...And yeah, I threw an imbued warp poison at him at each turn. I also threw remaining firebombs at him.
After about 7 turns of trying, endless reinforcement finally made me rout...I lost good units and good gear...I gave up
If you completed that quest, can you tell me what you did to take down Thag ?
There are a few things to remember, even if the mobs are not standing in fire, you can still do damage to them. If you do more than 75 damage per hit they wont regen more than they lose. You cant kill them this way as they will regen from 0 back to 75 BUT they dont regen damage from non-physical attacks so firebombs (obviously) and spells can kill them as they dont regen back from that damage.
And yes, it is the main reason Im never, ever rerolling a possessed warband, that mission is completely moronic.
I said earlier I tried 2 times, but in fact I tried 3 times. First try I was locked without firebombs, and the next 2 tries were identical...Thag was stuck in that same doorway and his reinforcement kept me from climbing on the second floor to finally jump down behind Thag.
Have you completed Cults missions ? Are the other missons badly designed as this one ?
@ hamster : Yeah, you need your own firebombs because crafting em on the map is mostly suicide. I threw every firebombs I had on that failed attempt. Once in a while I see an oil bomb popping from the store but it will take alot of time to get enough oil bombs. This mission had me re-roll a new magister since the one healthy lvl10 I had got megalomania on that stupid quest.
Stopped playing because of it (since I have finished the 3 other campaigns) and I'm not coming back to this game until they fix it, which is most certainly "never".
Yeah...its kind of a game-breaker. I am still having fun doing random campaign. I still wish they will fix something about it because I love that game and I wish I could atleast progress trough missions. I remember previous missions were not as badly designed as this one, but still was unnecessary puzzling.
Like you said, its amazing how it looks like no devs tested it before launch.
Maybe I am complaining too much since at least one player been able to get trough Cult`s missions..
The rest of the missions I have done were much better than this, so far this is the only completely stupid mission.
You dont NEED your own firebombs but they do make it alot easier, once you clear out the first few mutants its not too difficult to make the oilbombs since the reinforcements are pushovers compared to the first bunch.
Im not really worried about the favored mobs on my second attempt, without healing 75 wounds per hit I doubt they will be much of a problem but again I guess I can be in for more suprises if the game wont allow me to for example throw firebombs where they need to be.
If spells dosnt trigger the healing then its a shame I cant use merc wizards, I have found that a rapid 3 + 3 mastered lightningstrike combo will do wonders to take down close combat mobs, they even take a sizable chunk of wounds out of impressives.
Chaos really has crap damaging spells. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE chains and the standard weapon buff is great, especially mastered but lets be honest, the acid breath is rather weak and hard to use, I have yet to really try out word of pain but I feel thr problem with it is that to really get its points worth the magister has to really expose himself but I expect I will try it out at a later point.
This time round Im going to read up on the mission (cheat according to me) just so I can get past it.
Not worth it to plan the fight around but it can be useful.
guess its time to finally uninstall
And yes i agree your supposed to play a game not read it.. The quest is poorly designed as you have very little chance to understand all the things you need to do before you loose too much on not doing things in the right order straight away.
*The Regeneration of the enemies in the Cult of the Possessed Story Mission 2-1 and the Sisters of Sigmar mission 2-4 has been reduced to 50 wounds (was 75)
