Hired swords DLC idea
So when I heard of hired swords, I thought "Wow so we get some kickass mercenaries from the warhammer unverse? Kickass, have thy way of my bounty chest good sir." unfortunately I just found some slightly better versions of the copany i keep already. So I though to make this thread for some recruitables that might make awesome dlc later down the line. Please take in mind im just a casual fan of warhammer and don't know the deep lore.

Gotrek & Felix- Not lore friendly if Felix is added, but definetly Gotrek. Hey, in Mordheim the signs are likely to get you killed, perfect place for dwarf slayers to come and fufill their oaths. Gotrek, being a dawi could possibly be a slayer at this time. Hell this maybe where he sharpened his skills, against the necks of any silly cultists skulking around. And impressives should espcially be afraid, cause to a slayer, a giant beast makes them unbreakable, since fighting to death is what they live for. ...and i guess felix would tag along and write whatever down if he's added. Maybe avaiable to Empire mercs, Sisters of Sigmar, and maybe the Witch hunters

Lumpin Croop's Fighting ♥♥♥♥♥- cause that name... and the implications of having halfings in your band. Sure they're ok skirmishers and aren't slouches in a fight, but they are very silly and REKT your economy cause, how else do you purchase pies. Also maybe their expertise in agriculture and cooking boost leadership and inititive warband wide. Even merc love home cooked meals. So even low initiative bands, like if you really like heavy armor would benefit.
Same availability as above.

Pit fighters- Slaves of Tilea, brought over to "help" in the crisis. They vary wildly in gear and skill, but have two universal trait. They have NO upkeep and will always pass fear tests, aside from injury fees. Buying one for your purposes may be pricey, but in the long run it could be worth the investment.
Aviable to everyone except maybe sisters. can't really see the nuns doing this.

Anyother ideas?

While Felix doesn't publish his book about Gotrek 'til something like 2522 (it could be 2516 - I might be getting the dates mixed up), Mordheim takes place in 1999-2000. I know that Gotrek is old but he's not quite that old as he trained with The Mighty Sven Hasslefreesian when they were both young (basically, shortly before the The Mighty Sven scenario from the Warhammer Fantasy Battle 2nd edition boxed set) and some of the other dwarfs Gotrek meets comment on having known them both. Dwarfs in the Warhammer World tend to live 120-150 years with some lucky longbeards managing to make 300.

I think Mordheim might be a bit early for Gotrek.

That bein said I have some minor hopes for Ulli & Marquand (the two stars of a long running series of Mordheim comics that Games Workshop put out in a product called Warhammer Monthly that ran for a short handful of years). I believe they even put out an Ulli & Marquand pair of miniatures with a diorama base at one point. Ulli was a large Middenheimer with a strange mostly shaved hairstyle, a big walrus moustache, and an impressive two handed hammer. Marquand was a more generic looking sword and dagger fellow who might have been Estalian, Tilean or of Empire stock.

What about the special hired swords published on the white dwarf and mordheim rulebook? Do you remember Nicodemus the wizard? or the elf swordman? (don't remember the name) Would be nice to see those unique hired swords from the tabletop on the videogame.

Aenur, Sword of Twilight was the elf you're thinking about. Aenur was in the core book 'though. I don't believe he made an appearance in White Dwarf or Town Crier other than occassionally popping up in a few photographs. He was an easy sculpt to paint leading to him becoming a very popular miniature (especially with high elf and dark elf players for use in their armies) although people never really used him very much in Mordheim for some reason.

I'd honestly try to steer away from named individuals because you might come up against someone who's using the same guys in their gang as well..... Nicodemus was funny. He did a deal with a demon and demanded to ebcome the greatest wizard in the entire world so the demon placed a curse on him that caused him to slowly grow taller, and taller, and taller and never stop growing until he was, indeed, the "greatest" (tallest) of wizards (if not the most powerful). He was basically Giant Gandalf! (In fact his sculpt was blatantly based on an old Gandalf miniatures Games Workshop put out in the mid 80's but made larger and brought up to date a bit). The original version ahd a better hat 'though as it was all bent over and knackered looking.

The old (OLD) Fellowship box with Gandalf sculpt.

The rather similar Nicodemus sculpt.

Currently hired swords DLC are just heroes with exclusive abilities. The only named characters are dramatis personae, used during the campaign missions.

A troll slayer would be prime hired sword DLC material but eventualy should become redundant as we'll be getting then at the dwarf tresure hunters warband later (right Devs :steamhappy:? )

A pit fighter would be cool but i think their special ability was the use of the spiked gauntlet. Also don't think their lore was necessarly slaves form tilea but slaves and even free man that would fight for sport and money (even if it isn't the fighter who gets paid and entertained)

I think the devs are using their creative flexibility with regards to Dramatis Personae.

Indeed, except Bertha Bestraufrung for the Sisters, they have created new ones even when there was a named character from the TT (original book and Town Cryer included).

examples:
Skavens: Veskit in the TT / Flytch in MCotD
Undead: Marianna Chevaux in the TT / Katherina von Dernsbach in MCotD

Same thing with the hired sword list, those in the video game are quite different than in the TT (except the Wolf-Priest):
- Globadier
- Smuggler
- Doomweaver
They weren't in the original book, and neither featured in a Town Cryer (as far as I know).

Thus, with regards to hired swords and named characters, we can only surprise from the devs. ;)
