That said, there is an aspect to account for: Mordheim PvP is held together by wishful thinking and happy thoughts, so about 95% of PvP is done in Exhibition (no consequences) in case of a desync. Which means that progression PvP mostly happens by playing a Mission or two against normal progression AI and then playing Exhibition after, repeat until bored of the current Warband.
Also, something worth noting, Rank 10 Mod exists, and it reduces the time required for creating a new Rank 10 Warband from days to an hour or two. So when you do not want to do progression PvP and just want to quickly try something the Rank 10 Mod is where it is at. Just skip a day to get all the Gold you want, and the shop for equipment refreshes each day.
Mind, Rank10Mod breaks progression for Warbands forever, so only use it on new Warbands for Rank 10 PvP specifically.
Tldr: It should not feel too samey or boring unless made to be.
So, from what I understand, progression in PvP is possible in a way that we both could level up by exclusively fighting each other, but desyncs are an issue and if they occur, the consequences are unpleasant. And an alternative for lengthy leveling would be to use the mod you mentioned. That's all very helpful!
I wonder, what would the consequences be in case of an untimely desync?
You can mix and match fights with AI either way, if wanted.
If it desyncs, both side lose? I think.
It has been literally five years since I even looked at Contest PvP (consequences), but to my understanding it depends heavily on the type of desync experienced. Often it means that both sides see that it is the other's turn, in which case the only way out is that one concedes. Which can be brutal to the one who conceded if they were not low enough in Morale to do a Voluntary Rout.
Take with a grain of salt. As said, has been five years since I did Contest last time.
Nice to hear about that, after 473 painful hours to reach rank 8-9 with my warbands :D
I have like 5 active warbands and oh boy, oh boy that rank 10 mod would've save some hours.
I have never played against anyone else than people I know in real life and we have been playing "for real" and not for exhibition lol.
We played tabletop with real figurines and cardboard houses in the 90's, so maybe we just never though of that exhibition would be possibility too because "the olden rules".
I guess back then it was possible to write up your warband to agreed rank and buy stuff and skills with agreed amount of gold, but we tried to play some kind of campaign i guess so it was off the table
Damn i'm old.
Also I never would've guessed that Mordheim even have mods, or other players any more. wow. made my day. Going to dig in today
Anyway, it's certainly in top 3 of this type of games and top 2 in Warhammer games. Turn system is better than most of the turn based, while it's not perfect. Most annoying thing in Mordheim in my opinion is the user interface which was never "polished" enough. What comes to downtime while waiting opponent, it's good time to talk and it is always possible to agree on turn per unit limit.
Tournaments of Mordheim discord server has the multiplayer community and Mods (one for Rank 10 Warbands, another for a full rebalance of the game, can be used together as long as Rank10Mod is removed after building the Warband) both.
The pinned Mordheim Multiplayer community has been discontinued, except for containing a link to the same server.
And, yes, Mordheim is a very rough gem of a game. But the gameplay is very good, which is all that is needed, at the end of the day.
