Game stopped working
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has a similar issue and hopefully someone has some kind of a solution.

Few weeks ago I noticed that Mordheim: City of the Damned is not working. By this, I mean that it launches and I can hear sounds, but the display doesn't work. It either is display a tiny window in which I can't even move the mouse cursor, or if I put it in full screen (by pressing Alt+Enter) than I am getting either complete darkness or very pixelated icons (arrows, circles etc.)

My educated guess is that this is related to a windows update, but I am not 100% sure.

So far I tried rolling back the windows update, I tried launching it in a compatibility mode, as admin and not, tried updating drivers, tried verifying the integrity of game files. None of it worked so far. I ran out of idea.

Can someone help, please?

Well, you went through all the steps I would have taken to fix this issue, so I am out of ideas as well. Mind, what one update breaks, a later one may fix.
To be honest I do not recall hearing about this particular issue before.

Delete file ...Documents/my games/Mordheim/options.sg and try again. Backup before you do.

If that does not work, change windows scaling behaviour. Windows scaling might screw things up.

I appreciate the suggestions, but it still didn't work.
Literally nothing change.
For some reason the "Documents/my games/Mordheim/options.sg" file keeps appearing the moment I launch mordheim no matter how many times I delete it. I even tried editing it and nothing changed.
I tried scaling and it didn't do anything either.

Two possible causes:

a) The game recreates the file with default vaules. That is the intent.

b) Steam cloud sync creates the file from the cloud backup.


To prevent b), disable steam cloud sync, delete the file and try again.

I turned off Steam sync, turned steam to offline mode and disconnected my laptop from the internet alltogether, the Documents/my games/Mordheim/options.sg file appears the second I launch Mordheim. I don't know how to remove.

As for the drivers, I checked and both my powerful GPU card and the graphic card built into the CPU both have the most up to date drivers according to windows. I even updated NVidia drivers.

Still it is not displaying properly.

That the file reappears means the game recreates it with default values. That is a good thing.


You can try command line arguments. Steam calls them launch options.

Scroll down to "Unity Standalone Player command line arguments":

I'd start with:
-popupwindow
-screen-fullscreen
-screen-height
-screen-width

If that does not work, force DirectX, Direct3D or versions of OpenGL.

I tried all of these, and nothing worked. The force openGL at least gave me an error log/ Two actually I think.
