Vampire, Thrall, and Crypt Horror are the power soldiers. They move quick, hit hard, and can tank in a pinch. Their Fear and Terror wear off in the late game, but by then they should have the skills to make up for it. Dreg is a good support archer, effectively the only one the Undead get. You can ask the Sisters just how handy it is to have one soldier who can strike at range with no chance of Tzeench interference. Necromancer's a great buff and debuff machine later on. Ghouls swarm like Skaven, and Zombies are meat shields in the purest sense.
The Ghouls do get a long (3 turns) lasting -3% crit resist debuff through Disease Carrier, but that's only 1 of the 3 options that can occur, so it's not reliable for debuffing crit resist.
Also, the 2 main melee units, the Vampire itself and the Vampire Thrall can't go beyond 9 accuracy without a book of training AND either dipping below 15 WS or using a martial grimoire.
If you really built for it, 12 Acc would be enough for mastered Fatality and Vital Strike, which is plenty, but it's also a lot more work than what some of the other warbands need to get their crit builds going.
Surprisingly enough, a melee Dreg would perhaps be your best option for a crit build.
To me at least, late-game the warband revolves around debuffing enemy mental resists through a tactical application of Dismay so that your Fear and Terror don't nod off, then just delivering high DPS quickly.
Through Fear and surprisingly great mental stats (largely due to not needing leadership), which allows them to get Awareness, to me the Undead are essentially a melee resist warband.
Go and get the bloody Undead.
Play them for hours.
Try out different builds and tactics.
See what works and then and ONLY THEN write a guide on how to use them :)
You cannot write a guide to something you haven't directly experienced. To do that is called guessing.
Not trying to build a real guide. I'm trying to update the begginers guide with basically a 1-2 sentence guide about the faction.
So like for instance
Mercs: Probably one of the most well rounded faction, also have the most diversity in ranged weapons.
or
Skaven: Weaker individually, but have some great debuffs and their extra moves let them be incredibly mobile.
ETC. I'm not trying to build a step by step guide on how vamps work. My understanding currently is that Vamps are pretty well rounded and nearly all their units get fear or terror for instance.
Edit: For better clarity, I wrote the begginers guide to Mordheim. Since undead have came out, i've gotten like 3-4 PMs like "How are vampires/what do" and if I was to sum them up, how would I do it?
But they're more melee focused than ranged.
Thanks a ton Greybush, always an incredibly helpful part of the community.
Hah! I know a few who'd disagree with that! :D
Aha now I get you sunny :)
