Their Physical stats aren't that great, their Martial stats aren't that great, but they have no need of Leadership, and thus can get either 15 Alertness and 9 Int or vice versa (with book of training).
That opens up either a great melee resist build or a movement 9 scout / charge build.
Dregs aren't that great for melee and you can only have 2 Necromancers, so unless you're willing to pollute your warband with Doomweavers and Globadiers, what else are you going to do?
They're bad because of their terrible Leadership. They will fail All Alone, Fear and Terror checks, two of which by the way just became a lot more common with the addition of the rest of the Vampires. You'd need several skills and runes to compensate, which the Thrall wouldn't need and could take something better instead.
If this is a big problem for you then don't use them as meele. I just wanted to drop in and say that my dreg ARE working as tanks and they do well. If we would only see the weaknesses of any unit in this game every destruction warband would only have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ warpguard as heros or henchman...
He said he wasn't and then when we explains why not you tell him not to use them in melee.
Except that I think they're still bound by the 5 units rule, you couldn't have a leader and 9 Warpguards no matter how hard you tried.
Here's the thing: unless we go really into the weeds with books of training and grimoires, the Thrall can get similar or even better melee resist than the Dreg, mostly due to being able to master Awareness, and they come with better movement, immunity to psychology and the ability to cause Fear to potentially get what is essentially the same as having extra 30% melee resist.
That doesn't mean Dregs are terrible, and it'd perhaps be more accurate to say that the Thrall is simply better instead of saying that the Dreg isn't that great for melee, but that's just semantics.
Ambushes I think. Build them for mobility, dodge, give them a trap, prowl, ambush range...
Place a skull trap, hide behind a corner in prowl.
Poor mans night-runners basically.
A VT can hold down anything you need to tank
and this to be more precise
also there is idol of death. ho would help her taking charges and dgm before she manage to swing. and increase the morale loss if enemy die in there witch can be very handy.
Though you might not have meant it, just to clarify: Mastered Fatality takes 12 Acc.
