Try a simple critical build-Sword, Fatality, Vital Strike, very easy and use her as a backline come in kill, stick and move kind of gal. Very Deadly
You can then try different variations like I do on many builds.

Fits better I think with natural stats, and less reliant on gettng accuracy up, leaving more points to place into weaponskill or ballistic (if one wants bow option more viable on situational weapon changes).
But then again, what's best is subjective. If no one else on band is crit focused, they fill can still easily fulfil the role and still do well at it.
But yes, you need a stone and a loot point for the cheapest spells.
But really, Undead are the best warband at shuffling the turn order due to Call of Vanhel and Disease Carrier. Just combine that with Staggering Blow, Stimulus, Ready Stance and Weapon Swaps. This is really what the undead do better than any other warband.
But Darksouls and Warpguards are both better, indeed.
Want to be careful how I answer this as I am not attacking anyone's favorate way of playing the dead. I merely gave one basic idea you may try since you were struggling with the Thrall. It depends what you use her for. Early she is a scavanger for me, because of terror she can kill a forward runner with ease and steal his loot...lol
However, in the long run she is outclasses by many other heroes. Mine is a critical archer and critical sword master, capable of 4 shot at you with his chitical success and high evasion. Haven't lost her yet. In this instance she gets high shoots u to death, gets you stunned, and then swoopes down and destroys you super fast, once dead, back up top and killing the next one. She is a nice supporter.
Your missing the point here on why the Thrall is a good crit built. She coordinates with almost all the other crit builds your dead warband can do, single sword , sidestep, and Vampire's intimidate mastery can lead to her giving you 5 shots or finishing you off completly, quickly and decisively, so I disagree she is not an awful crit build. Remember that one or two of your zombies with web, shield and crit swords can do tremebdous damage as a group. A headshot Archer or stun oriented build, intimidate, crit damage, fatality, very deadly warband. However that is one style of play, other styles just as good. I would not disregard the single sword, no shield critical change build she can generate with high agility make her very difficult to stop.
Zombies are very tough in packs and wall defenses. Though Warpguards with heavy armor can hold their own, great movement and a powerful henchmen. You may want to think as theme to your entire warband than just adding the best henchmen possible. Necros can assist the zombifoids many ways and they have some benefits warpguards do not.
Again it is how you build your entire warband and what your trying to do.
Mine are both critical monsters and range switchers. However, you decide what you want. Warpguards will not last to the combined Dead warbands critical might and neutralizing effects. I have had no issue with them, but I have played a long time.
Though Terror can be limited at higher levels, you can enhance that ability to a point of coordinated paralization of a unit. Depending on the warband you face, obviously against another undead you may have difficulty with this, but its about the whole warband as a unit, not individual builds. Continual Failed rolls on terror can be deadly if done right, but some feel too much work. I have a few, but Up to u.
And Thralls do make terrible Crit builds. It’s true. They have no unique Crit modifiers beyond what any unit in the game can acquire.
Zombies are awful though, worst henchmen in the game. Least amount of skill points, only 3 passive slots, and need buffed just to do anything. Ghouls are also in the lower tier of henchmen
