One way to Build him is as a suicide bomber, which necessitates 100% Stun Resistance. Basiccally, he walks in the middle of the enemy formation, Wild Casts Idol of Change, and starts spamming one of his 2OP Spells now costing 1OP, not for the Spell effect, but for the Curses. Addrenaline Rush Mastery if he Overloads his OP too soon. Then just walk away from the enemies suffering from Open Wounds and/or Stuns and Cauterize himself to remove the Open Wounds.
Or just use him as a Tank who minors in Casting. He has Skills for increasing his survivability, and can basically be a Tank of any kind easily.
I will give you a few Builds shortly, once I have built them on Character Planner.
PS: Overload removes all OP from Characters around. Mainly a means to stop Doomweaver from spamming too much. :b

Run in the middle of the enemy formation. Start spamming. Keep spamming.
You get the general idea. One might even do an Armour Tank with Strength 12 and Armour Proficient Mastery, but I never tried.
Actually, in Undead, if you have Necromancer/-s, there is also a third option of making him into magical artillery together with Necromancer. Because Idol of Change really combines nicely with Necromancer Default Skill.
rune of scholars on armor i am running
I think I have 2 caster Doomweaver in that video. Similar to what Slaviour posted.
I am going to make a melee wild caster tank though soon in Mordheim Faction Chronicles
Think Crowley had two Melee tank Doomweavers in this warband
Its definitely an option. I have 2 more melee focused, blood idol laying, doomweavers on my Khorne themed band. One in light armor, one heavy. Once you have masterwork gear, those armor penalties fall off or become rather trivial. Stat wise, can do most melee builds fine.
Really, when it comes to themed cult bands (based on a Chaos God), a proper doomweaver goes a long way to defining it as such. All idols have their uses, and combos, but what is a Khorne band without the herald leaving blood idols, or the Nurgle band without pestilence?
Idol laying builds also work well for melee, since Idol placement has less range than well ranged spells. One of my earliest (and still working) ones, is a light armored idol laying weaver, who puts down pestilence and blood, while working among the dark souls. Weakening the enemy, while supporting yours. Another combo is blood and lust (bloodlust), so that the overlapping idols both increase your troops crit resistance, heal, lessen morale effects, and so on. The particular effects, just overlap well.
Another one to mention since someone mentioned necro/doomweaver combos, is the idol synergy of lust with death. Lust decreases morale effect of your losses, death increases the morale effect of theirs. The combination is great for holding morale on a front line doomed to take losses or just generally winning the morale battle forcing routs on even the most stubborn of enemies (sisters for example).
