Is the RNG really bad in this game?
I took a brief scroll through some of the reviews because I've been eyeing this game for a while now. But I'm still hesitant, I love turn based games a lot xcom is one of my favorites. But one of the big complaints I see is that the RNG is just horrible, and if its to the point of game breaking well...then I guess I'd have to pass. But I just want some opinions on it x(

The RNG is fine.
It isnt broken per se. it seems based on dice rolls of the table game. Xcom is base on 100 right? 95% to hit? roll a 100 sided die.

seems to me this has a smaller pool of total numbers, like 36 not 100, i could be wrong, but that is how it feels. basicly you have to send 3-5 guys against one and win by maxing your number of rolls against one bad guy at a time

You start the game with small defense (20-30% ish dodge, for instance). This is fixed over time but has a huge impact in the beginning so hits really count. If your team misses a few, it can turn the tide in a battle.

After game can be rough on individuals (or several individuals) and if you don't know how to manage your warband, it can get frustrating.

Fortunately, you can ask any questions on the forum and get expert answers if your having problems in any area.

Most that complain about the rng has a single bad streak and then they go bananas.. You cant fail 95% 3 times in a row and so on they say, well as anyone who has played D&D or the likes with a D20 will tell ya, you can defenitly roll the same number 3 times in a row, on top of that many times they forget that the rolls are actually not in a row, as theres defence rolls ect. inbetween.
Their next reply is often that its a fanboy base, do we like the game ?.. Sure, but we are not blind to the problems it might have, however the RNG is not it.

If you like a strategic game that dont put no time preassure on you, gives you a challenge, and punishes you mainly for your mistakes, and yes sure sometimes lady luck just plain out hate you.
Then you should defenitly give it a try, and when you get steam rolled by undead (if you do), feel free to ask for advice.

Alright awesome,
I just wanted to hear a few opinions because some people do play the game for only an hour or so and then write a negaitve review. I liked the whole look and concept of the game and I'm a big fan of turn based. So thanks for the input guys, I will be getting it!

RNG is not broken

But I think that they must add a friendly mode to people that don't wanna hardcore play.

Something like more dificults. Easy mode: You roll have +15, enemies rolls have -15, these modes balanced the mistakes that do people because they don't know all non-friendly mechanics of the game

Because to play in a normal mode (with normal RNG), and don't frustate, you need hours and hours reading rules/intructions, and know very good all mechanist, and the 90% of the potencials players don't do it, and then is normal that they frustate himself

So far this game is the best entertainment i have gotten for $ to time spent ratio.
Hope you enjoy it.

Good luck with it. Like Reaver stated, probably one of the cheapest game out there, it's cost per hour is around 1 cent/hour provided you understand what's happening on screen.

If you need help with it you can allways post here, you will find someone to explain you why you have troubles with something.

Do the tutorials, read guides, and understand the UI (especially the dice log), and you should be fine. Get ready to have your ass handed over to you though, unless you are well used to classic tabletops, this game does not give a ♥♥♥♥ about your feelings and will trample you the first chance it gets. Have fun^^

The RNG is only really a problem at the very early levels/stages of the game. You might get screwed over by it a little but nothing major.

A lot of the bad reviews for this game comes from people who are unwilling to learn, play carefully or comprehend that henchmen and others are disposable. They ragequit without even really trying.

The game is really fun, but you need to go in it expecting to have your guys get fked over. You can save scum if you so choose by copying your save/profile if the unforgiving nature is not your thing.

As far as I understand it's been concluded that the RNG is "fair", i.e. the AI doesn't cheat. But there are a lot of obscure rules and mechanics, combined with the fact that enemy warbands will always be equal to or stronger than your own, that might make it seem that way at first. I was tempted to get it myself at this discount, but I passed on it because of the steep difficulty/learning curve and the mandatory ironman.

The more skills you learn, the less RNG is going to screw you. BUT it's still gonna happend, making things more exiting: success tastes better when failure lures behind the corner!

I was hesitant as well before buying the game. Now I have all DLCs and no regrets.

Well people are ignorant and simple dont understand what is happening. They crying about not hitting with 80% hit chance. While not wondering they have 80% hitchance to the one in the dodge stance and the one who is standing normaly. -> you have a 80% chance to hit-> if you succed to hit , the enemy in dodge stance still have his chance to dodge the hit(with his dodge chance). The game doesnt explain, well. But if you think about what happening you notice ... randomness is fair and balanaced like any kinda of normal board game.
So when you play this game, take your time understanding everything. Its fine to fail over and over. Just try to learn and understand what is happening.
