For new players:
Hey everyone, it's that time again where the game is on sale so a lot of new players are showing up. For those new players: welcome! This will be the game you love to hate. A few general tips for people new to the game about the forum.

1) the mordheim community is pretty close and most of us love to help new players. The community is also incredibly defensive. This means that a post phrased "omg this game is dumb and unfair and the dice cheat" is going to get a lot of responses of "git gud". Conversely, a post like "hey help me figure this out" is going to get a lot of positive feedback

2) as you've no doubt learned, this game has a huge learning curve. Mordheim's tutorials frankly suck, so I highly encourage you to check out the guides fellow players have made. I've made a (relatively) comprehensive one for new players explaining the basics. Stymie has wonderful guides on becoming an expert at game theory and the probability. Beyond that, there are guides for nearly every warband and advice as to how to play them. (I'd link them, but on mobile atm). Seriously, check out the guides, it'll save you frustration

3) don't treat loses as defeat, treat them as temporary setbacks. It'll make the experience a lot better.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot them here!

Word! Just wanted to shoot off a general note of thanks as your guide did help me a good deal when I was new. I was also impatient to start and didn't finish all tutorials (yes, yes guilty as charged :p) so your guide was all the more crucial. Judging by the number of thumbsup and reads for the guide, pretty sure there are more like me who feel the same, so yea thx once again and keep up the good work xD

No problem at all. I actually don't like self promoting (always feels a little crass) but new players tend to post the same 5 questions (which, once again, is understandable- mordheim is confusing as hell), so i figure the guide saves a lot of frustration. If someone decides to adapt it and fill out the edges, i'd be more than happy to promote that as well.

bump for visibility, let'skeep this on the first page.

Also, check out the stickies, it contains wiki pages and a characterplanner among many other beautifull things

I forgot about the stickies! Yes check them out (bumping bc first page is full of rage rn)

#4--One of the biggest learning curves is understanding all the perks/starting skills of ALL the warbands. Spend some time with the wiki--or make new warbands just to look at their units. You need to know at a glance who is immune to all alone (and wtf all alone is), for example.

#5--Don't bother with the tutorial, just be willing to restart a couple times. I probably played 20 mercenary warbands before I had one I was proud of (and that lived to enjoy my pride)

#6--The RNG isn't broken, it's fine.

There are two good reasons to complete the tutorials.

1. Achievements (2 of them)

2. Warlord will not be able to flame you for not having the achievements.

Otherwise, they are decent for learning basic mechanics.

Actualy, being flamed by Warlord is also an achievement, and although not difficult to achieve, getting both achievements can be hard if you do not follow this step by step guide:

1) buy Mordheim, install and launch, get traunched by AI

2) go to forums, complain.

3) Get flamed by Warlord for not having done tutorials (achievement unlock)

4 Play tutorials (achievement unlock)

Alternatively, if you do not follow these steps, you will be in trouble, because your profile will show that you already did the tutorials so you cant get the 'Flamed' achievement. But there is hope yet.

1) buy Mordheim install and launch, play tutorials (achievement unlock)

2) set profile to private and complain on forums. Also, add in your OP that you have not completed the tutorials.

3) Warlord will assume you have not done the tutorials and flame you (achievement unlock)

The second method is faster, but also more risky, because Warlord may assume you have done the tutorials, especially if you say so in the OP of your complain thread.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: added some extra advice, shout out to Drathnar1 to point this out. Together we can make the best how-to-be-flamed-by-warlord-guide on the entire forum.

Bump! How about putting this into the guides section (above what is already there)

It fits very nicely and we avoid having several topics on the matter.

Maybe have it renamed to: New player - read here before posting!

And don't sweat the self-promotion (youtube.com/gamekNightPlays) if you do great stuff, like your guide, it deserves to be promoted! ;)

It's possible to speed it up though if you actually openly admit that you haven't finished the tutorials, like some dumb person did in this thread. :p I also hear that if the profile is not private but friends only, he can even get his friends to vouch for what he says :p

@GenericNickname:
Not all people want to actually play better and some prefer to improve at their own pace. Pretty sure those that do want to understand things better will eventually find their way to your guide (and other guides here) and will appreciate it/them.

As mentioned above I appreciate your efforts but would like to note that in some cases, people just want approval NOT advice and no matter how well written a guide is or how sincere the effort/thought behind it, it won't gain much traction with that group. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I will also say I hope to be proven wrong. :)

Oh no i totally agree. I know some people like the rants and the self righetousness, but most of the people that end up here actually want help, so i figured i'd repost this.

I never got the achievement for being flamed by Warlord. :(

Hey, I have the tutorial achievements but it's because my kid did them. **fingers crossed**
Your Mom's Oshi Dec 28, 2016 @ 9:46am
I played the tutorial on someone elses account before I bought the game and I don't think anybody would care. Guess I miss out on 2 achievements.
Game kNight Plays Dec 28, 2016 @ 10:38am
Great - this thread actually made me go check if I had the achivements ... and it doesn't seem like I do!

I dare Warlord to flame me though ;)
Your Mom's Oshi Dec 28, 2016 @ 11:34am
Kinda funny that the veterans have filled up the new player topic. I don't think anybody that has posted here has less than 100 hours in Mordheim.
