you either overheat and it's Q-tip time, or you have a powersupply issue.
mordheim is not responsible.
i would bet on your GPU fan and cooler, odds are you have a nice blanket of dust.
1) Before opening the game, lower my screen resolution. It's only temporary and I change it back after gaming sessions. This is normal for me to do for any game that I see framerate issues on.
2) I alternate visual modes: 320x200 runs fast, but is blurry as sin when fullscreened, and is hard to read. So I use 320x200 for normal gameplay, but when I need to read the details, I Alt+Enter back to normal size, and then I click Maximize on the window. This adjusts the resolution to be the screen size, so the text appears clearly. Afterwards, I just set it back to 320x200 and fullscreen again.
Before I started doing all this... I played at a slightly higher resolution (I think the 680x??? one) and the choppiness was "fine" for offline play since it's turn based, but some story missions in particular (This one Act 2 Human Merc mission, HINT HINT) repeatedly and consistently overheated my laptop until it shut down.
EDIT: And yes, with the exception of resolution itself, everything was at the lowest possible settings even before I started doing the resolution flip-flop method.
And as Happy said, a complete clean up inside the computer is NEVER a bad idea.
Should be noted my computer while bit old is not outdated. Core i7 unlocked (over clocked for some games not Mord though) with 32g DDR 3 ram. AMD 280x gaming card.
Also dust was not the issue almost none in it.
Iiinteresting. Think this may be the issue I am having as well; just tracked the last PC I built and it looks like I didn't order a new PSU, which means I'd have pulled one out of my old machine, which had a much lower spec and therefore lower power draw.
Might be shopping for a new PSU soon. Thanks for posting your solution.
Sorry. I bought Mordheim because it was 75% off and I'd been wanting it for awhile, knowing full well my comp wasn't good enough YET - but I had plans to upgrade. Problem was... turns out I couldn't upgrade anything besides RAM, due to the way it's built. So I decided to see what I could make work as is.
