having read the other post after edit, i still have questions. i understand that wizards usually dont wear heavy armor, like, my warband level 8 skaven wizard wears clothes and a staff.
so why is it that the Wolf priest in particular can work IN heavy armor? is it specific talents i must pick or specific items? ive noticed his great ulrician axe reduces the chance of wrath etc. just so i can take/give him the things he need, to run around in maybe heavy armor, swing his weapon around and still be a decent spell caster without being divine wrath'ed everytime.
Because there are two kinds of Casters: Arcane and Divine.
Armour reduces Arcane Casting chances.
Wolf Priest is a Divine Caster (as are all Sister Casters and Warrior Priest).
Therefore they don't care. And they care not for extra Curse Chance either.
It means exactly that. Arcane spellcasting. Sisters, Warrior Priest, and Wolf Priest do no use Arcane spells, they use Divine spells. So their spellcasting chances (and Wrath chances) are not affected at all by armour.
Staffs and other weapons only affect Curse/Wrath chances.
Casting a spell goes like this:
-your casting chance is displayed next to the spell (usually between 75-95%).
-your Curse/Wrath chance is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen.
-first you roll for casting
-if it succeeds, your target (if it's an enemy) makes a Magic resistance roll. If not, you roll for Curse/Wrath chance.
-if your target succeeds his Magic res roll, he's not affected. You roll for Curse/Wrath chance.
So whether or not your spell succeeds or your target is affected, you roll for Curse/Wrath.
Curse/Wrath chance is only affected by the level of the spell and specific skills/runes, and increases by 15% for every attempted spell.
Arcane casters are only affected by Curse (and anything that affects Curse) and Divine casters are only affected by Wrath (and anything that affects Wrath).
ooooh thats the reason. thanks man now i get it. i thought arcane spell casting was just a general term for all the types of spell casters in the game, which included grey seers and what not.
ive only ever had skaven beyond rank 1 (its rank 8) because i only really liked them, so any other given warband is completely new to me, also this divine caster stuff.
now it all makes sense. thanks
Also keep in mind, its not quite as simple as all order casters being divine casters. While it is the case with Wolf Priest, Sisters, and Warpriest, the Warlock is an arcane caster, like the chaos casters are.
