Witch hunter captain build
I'm thinking of having him go ranged. It just feels too useful to have a solid ranged hero on your war band, and the leader is the only good one that witch hunters seem to have to offer. What do you guys think?

Mine was a Shooter-Tank hybrid. Shoot until caught/I need to tie something down. Then change for melee and Sidestep like no tomorrow.

If one wants somewhat more Counterattacks, Swift Counter allows one to better make use of the 1OP retaliations his Passive allows.

I went full ranged with mine; can't remember much of the build though. Think I had crossbow pistols with Misfortune, plus Sharpshooter, and Trial by Pain (and obviously Quick Reload). I tended to work him in tandem with my MR/crit Witch Hunter; use the Misfortune to reduce CR on the target and also load it with Trial by Pain, then have the WH go in. Nothing better than watching an enemy cause themselves more damage than they cause you.

I used a Smuggler with a Rifle cause she lost a leg fairly early on and she did really well...at least 6-7 crits in the final mission (4 alone on the Curator over 3 lives) and was glad I gave the Executioner the day off. For the Captain I went with a sword and free hand with Swift Counter and Counterattack I think and Sidestep (the first one may have had Feint too, later versions went with Precise Strike) - kinda squishy but he could tie-up dangerous enemy melee units.

Mine is built for ranged with x-bow pistols and trial by pain, added order just to try it and it works nice so I keep it that way, with this band I lately run a 4-5 men team with Executioner.
WH hero (with runes and maybe books) is good enough for ranged combat IMO with his high accuracy hence crit chance, in case you want your leader for melee.

I made mine hybrid , range 20bs and 15ws
Have blunderbuss and if melee he has 70%melee resist +20% def stance, and if happens to be in deny the heretic spell 105% melee resist

What is the advantage of the blunderbuss?

Is it compatible with trial of pain?
Ratham May 29, 2017 @ 2:44am
Mine currently has a purple crossbow w/ a 2h hammer. Light armor/65% dodge chance.

He's pretty strong at both range and melee.

Trial og pain cant go on bkunderbuss as some other range active skills

Blunderbuss is for a melee-centric/hybrid guy like the Merc captain - you can see a group of 3 or more enemeies then use it - but it's not a primary weapon. Trial of Pain like Skaven poison should be delivered by the most efficient means possible.. ie the x-bow pistols - other than that you should be equiping a melee weapon and some dodge antics!

Yes, my Captain is a range Trial of Pain/Order guy, with sidestep. Slaviour's build is indeed more an hybrid melee/range.

For the enchant on the crossbow pistols: misfortune or perforation (or something else)?

I think its better to use perfotation on xbow pistol, for 38% ap and skill 10% so you deal around 50 dmg per hit.

Depends on your accuracy and crit %. If your reliant on crits, no point in armor penetration. A crit allready penetrates armor, so armor penetration from enchant, only applies to normal hits.

I reserve armor penetration for NON CRIT shooters, as they are the ones that benfit most from it. For any crit based shooter, either critting more often, or critting more devastatingly is better in my opinion.

My witchhunter captain, is Toker Von Jaeger, master hunstsman with hunting rifle.
