Shaders are compiling every launch (2-3 min). Is this normal?
I feel like the shaders should compile once and then never again, why are they recompiling every time I launch the game? They're very slow. (Win 10, 3070 RTX, i9-9900k)

Make sure your shader cache size is not set to disabled in Nvidia control panel. This is the only reason I can think of that it would need to fully do the shaders each start up.

Sounds like a hardware issue if it's actually recompiling them and not just verifying them in a few seconds. The only time mine actually recompiles is if I updated my drivers, which it should in that case.

this is probably the best answer throughout this entire rant of comments im going to try it when i get home but if this doesnt work are there other places that can effect shader cache limit or disable cause in steam setting it says shaders cached 0.0 MB and idk what that is

so that didnt work for me so i did the last ditch effort and uninstalled it from my NVME internal SSD installed it to a external SSD and shaders no longer takes 2-5 minutes when loading it takes 10 seconds tops now i guess it really does have something to do with NVME SSD hardware maybe a update we didnt get but that fixed my issue i hope that helps others cause going to epic games launcher after getting my skins was not worth

Sure that's why all computer is lagging while "reading my 'slow' NVMe SSD"

Everyone's talking about crappy ssd's. mine is compiling every launch (2-3 min)
I have a Samsung 990 Pro with no issues transferring files and loading other games in a snap.
i7 14700kf
DDR5 32 gb 6000 MT/s
4070ti super

So what is the issue now?

*** FIX FOR ME ***
Wanted to give an update, deleted config files via launcher.
closed launcher
went into steam to verify game files, started it up, compiling (2-3min) closed.
re opened and it fixed!

same mine compile shaders every time i start the game and take about 2-3 min

im have it on a nvme aswell

This fixed it for me: https://www.marvelrivals.com/guide/20241114/41348_1193660.html
I had 3-5 minute compiling shaders issue and follow the directions on that guide exactly and it works, now compiling shaders only takes 8-10 seconds.
Install game on sata ssd, shader compilation is faster than on nvme for some reason
You can also go into your gpu app and set the change the shader cache size, on Nvidia the default is 4GB which I dont think is enough, changing it to 10gb is likely enough, but if you have the room and play other games you might want to set it to 100gb (idk about other gpus)

I'm compiling shaders on a laptop around 30 seconds, not more

I am having the same issue with my shader cash size to Unlimited, the game on a NVMe SSD, and a brand new flagship GPU with Nvidia. Also getting the GPU crash dump errors minimum every 10 games, but could be even quicker.

SSD doesnt have anything to do with shader compiling in games. When it comes to normal loading screens yes it will, but for compiling shaders is a gpu and cpu intensive task. I have a 4090 and 14900k and it only takes me about 3-5 seconds to load shaders each time.
I'm so glad most of this discussion was spergs having a Twitter argument. Lot of help :miadumb:
